Swiss Hunter Duo @ Kemble

Just in case you missed this whilst you were salivating over the Sea Vixens recently confirmed appearence. The “Swiss Hunter Duo” will return to Kemble for this years show. They last appeared here in July 2001 in that (if I say so myself) memorable Hunter anniversary show.

This year is the 50th anniversary of the types entry into service with the RAF and so I could not let it go unnoticed.

Sadly, the Sea Hawk has had to cancel as it’s still awaiting the parachute harnesses from BAE. It’s still a great show though ! 😀

I for one am looking forward to seeing G-HVIP at an airshow, great bit of work that Glen! And to be flown as part of the swiss pair – awsome purely awsome! Kemble, always the best airshow of the year! ( P.S. I’m not being paid ).

Kodak, you are correct the aircraft in question is an F58, if I can figure it out I’ll post a picture. The story I had heard was that the squadron had permission to paint the aircraft for 24 hours after which it had to revert to normal colours. Seems like a shed load of work for 1 day. I think the jet did 2 flights in the scheme.

I rather like the idea of having a really lairy jet to compete with Jonathon’s. something along the lines of the graffitti Hunter would be cracking. (there’s enough Hunters painted in boring camo colours to keep the purists happy!)

Yes please then !! I dont like civvy schemes on former miltary aircraft!! For instance the cvix looks awful and AFAIC theres no where near enough Hunters in accurate camo to go round!! IMHO guys, IMHO!!!

Nah !

It was the 12th May 1973 – one day event only – two flights from Meiringen Air Base.

And generally spoken: Such schemes or even a small personalized nose-art on Swiss AF aircraft always was some sort of clandestine operation during these days. Only during the late 80’s and beyond, such repaints became more official.

The squadron decided to paint the aircraft without any official permission. The station CO was on leave and on his return ordered the repaint, it lasted 2 weeks. That’s whats printed in one of the Swiss Hunter books if i remember right Hunter Fascination.

I say bring it on.

Absolutely……………and they will be flown by the same 2 Swiss pilots that performed the routine at Kemble last time, Ueli Leutert and Paul Ruppiener.

Mark Hanna was thinking about getting an OFMC Hunter painted in that tiger scheme to go with the Tiger Squadron supporters group. I believe the original Hunter only had the scheme on for two weeks as the station commander returned from his leave wnet nuts & ordered it straight into the paint shop.
One colour scheme i’d really like to see a Hunter in is the Indian aerobatic team the Thunderbolts.

So if we painted VETA in the same tiger scheme as was applied to one of the Swiss air force machines (J-4030?), would that count?

No, being as VETA is a T7 and J-4030 is an F58 of the ex Patrouille Suisse.
I cant recall seeing a piccy a tiger Hunter but would love to see some shots, but I bet it was a single seater.

The red/white of 4FTS is very eye catching and would make a great accompanyment to Delta’s Gnat and a standard scheme JP(if there are any left!!??) Or, an ETPS scheme or even the unique T12 green & white!?? Anything thats authentic is fine by me!

Would the Swiss graffitti hunter count as a representative machine?

Of course – its an exact copy of an Air Force retirement scheme!

Pull your finger out then Dunc!!!!!!

Not my fault guv!If I’d had my way, she’d have flown in August last year!! And I think she should go into an all-over tiger scheme, not 4FTS!
