Well it had to happen, with LH and its bags of money, SWISS have been able to re-introduce free food on their European flights. That mean’s i can be fed when i fly with them in September đ
Taken off the Swiss site
Free food and drinks in Swiss Economy on European flights
Inflight food and drinks will again be included in the Swiss Economy ticket price on SWISSâs European services from May 25. The complimentary foodservice is a key element in Swiss International Air Linesâ current product enhancement initiative. NestlĂ© will be SWISSâs foodservice partner for the new Swiss Economy inflight product on the carrierâs European services.
SWISS will be reintroducing free food and drinks in Swiss Economy class on all its European flights on May 25. The carrier will thus again offer customer-friendly complimentary inflight foodservice to all its passengers on all its services systemwide. Travellers will be offered a selection of hot or cold snacks and drinks, depending on the time of day and the length of the flight.
New partner Nestlé
The snacks and some of the beverages for the new service will be provided by Nestlé. Both SWISS and Nestlé are bywords for Swiss quality in their respective fields. The new European food and beverage product will be introduced as early as May 25.
NestlĂ© will be working together with Dutch-based Supplair to provide the new products. Gate Gourmet will still deliver the catering to SWISSâs flights, and will continue to provide the food and beverages for SWISSâs long-haul services and the Swiss Business cabin on its European flights.
An even stronger position as a quality airline
âIn reintroducing complimentary food and drinks for our European Swiss Economy customers, we are marking a further milestone in our ongoing product enhancement endeavours,â says Christoph Franz, President & Chief Executive Officer of SWISS.
âThose endeavours have already included the comfortable new seats on our Airbus A320s and the new and customer-friendly user concept at Zurich Airport,â Franz continues. âAnd all these innovations are helping strengthen SWISSâs position as a genuine quality airline.â

You think? I’ve found the prices to be cheaper than some airlines, especially from MAN!
There fares from MAN to Basel and Zurich are very expensive I have found.
They charge much more than BA to ZRH.
The weird thing is though, Swiss have very competative fares from MAN long-haul via ZRH.

Excellent! Shame Swiss are a bit too expensive short-haul. đ

My uncle live near FRA and travel to DUB about 3 times a year. He used to travel with LH becasue he got the meal etc. However now he flies with EI because LH intra European service has become pretty basic.

Logical. They are part of LH now and nobody can imagine having a LH economy ticket and having to pay for food. That is what German Wings is for. We will ahve to see which routes will be profitable with full service and which wonÂŽt. Epxect those routes to be taken over by German Wings (or Swiss Wings) or dropped altogether in favor of a service via Munich or Frankfurt.

I find it fascinating how differnet countries expect different things from airlines. Swiss were obviously struggling getting the passengers into the planes by charging for food. Take a look at Ireland though. Aer Lingus are doing better than ever now they are charging for food as are Iberia. I have to agree that Swiss fares were really competitive espeically on DUB-ZRH. They were consistetly undercutting Aer Lingus and they offer a decent frequency.
Im glad to see the re-introduction of food onto their flights and I wish them the best of luck.

Agree with you there Michael, tho i got to say, SWISS’ prices have been competitive of late! Got my Hong Kong flights ÂŁ120 cheaper than any other airline!
They have a great product, and by re-introducing an in-flight service, will only enance their reputation!

Excellent decision.
There’s nothing I hate more than an airline which isn’t a low cost but insists on offering inflight service similar to Ryanair and easyJet. Paying over the odds for food and drinks isn’t fair when you look at how much you have to spend on an air ticket with the airline.
Regardless of the length of a flight, I think all passengers on any airline (apart from low costs, of course) should be offered at least a complimentary drink.
