Swissair

Should Swissair join ONEWORLD?
As their new focus includes plans to join an alliance, is ONEWORLD the best alliance for them to join? Considering the alternatives, Star Alliance for example, their hubs at Frankfurt and Munich are too close to Zurich. The Skyteam alliance also has Delta, who Swissair have broken up with.

Swissair should – if possible – form a new alliance. Probably with KLM, which has not jet been allowed to join ONEWORLD, and ALITALIA. The North American Partner could be NORTHWEST. But SAirGroup is in serious trouble: It didn´t buy into AIR PORTUGAL as proposed. SABENA is in a desastrous financial situation and so is LTU. Reports in the media in the area of Northrhine-Westfalia say that LTU has serious problems with its employees (unions) and its future therefore remains uncertain.

crossair also have an extensive codeshare agreement with aerlingus, also a oneworld carrier. they codeshare on dublin-zurich and on services between dublin and london city and beyond to switzerland. (crossair is a subsidiary of swissair) i was told by a senior member of aerlingus that they chose crossair because of a widely held belief that swissair and subsidiaries would join oneworld eventually. incidentally, qualiflyer is not a global alliance but an airline grouping (as swissair itself acknowledges). in terms of hubs, zurich would be good for oneworld: dublin, london, and manchester serve north west europe, helsinki the northeast and madrid the southwest, but there is no hub in central/se europe.

Well it´s feasible. Right now they have codeshare agreements with Iberia which is a Oneworld. But Swissair itself its founder member of Qualyfier Group. So I don´t think they join Oneworld.
