 Does anyone know if Seafire SX336 is fitted with her own wings or for that matter F.17 wings? The reason I ask this is my cousin has pointed out that all the photo’s he’s seen of Seafire F.17s during their operational days they don’t seem to have undercarriage bulges on the wing top surface, but SX336 has,it might be that she’s fitted with larger wheels/tyres I don’t know, so over to you.

Was SX300 recovered from Warrington along with ‘336?
Indeed it was.

SX336, currently flying, is fitted with inner wings that originated from SX300. Period images of SX300 show it was fitted with the 10.25 inch wheels.
SX336 is currently fitted with an u/c leg type and 12 inch wheels that require the bulged wheel bay area mod. for clearance.
The outer wings currently on SX336 originate from Seafire XV’s SW896 and SR630, port and starboard respectively.
A quick flick through a bunch of Seafire XVII period images shows typically the larger 12 inch wheel was fitted to about 25% of airframes.

This thread may be helpful!
It seems likely that the wing “stubs” are new build, but the outer portions are actually Seafire XV wings. The inner wings are of course where the wheel bulges would be located. I’d guess if they are there and weren’t originally, it might be through having a different undercarriage geometry for operating off tarmac rather than an aircraft carrier.
