Sycamore XE317

Hi All,

Bristol Sycamore XE317 is undergoing it’s restoration at AeroVenture. Where looking for any photos of her during her service life, can anyone help?

Cheers

I had two flights in her in April 58 at Acklington when she was with 275 Sqn. (Winched up and down both times!)

Sounds good to me – ask him in advance to check DGWs pictures as well for the ‘dunk tank’ photos; he’ll know who you mean! 😉

Hi Twinotter23,

Many thanks but I’m due a visit to Newark with a Wessex winch frame so I’ll see Mike then.

There is a photograph of XE317 of “E” flight No 275 Sqdn RAF Chivenor wet winching off Ilfracombe taken by George Francis. Information from Page 105 “RAF Chivenor” by Dave Watkins Alan Sutton Publishing 1995.

Have you asked Newark?

IIRC they may still have an archived airframe file from its time at Winthorpe.

I didn’t go down to collect XE317 from Lee-on-Solent , but I believe one of the ‘collectors’ might have some pictures of its ‘dunk tank’ days there! 🙂

No photos but XE317 ex G-AMWO, Nos 275/118/225/118 Squadrons then CFS at Ternhill coded S:N before going to the Royal Navy as instructional airframe 6.5.72. This might help jog memories.
