I’m new to the forum and researching S A Reed for a webinar later this year. The history of the theory of sampling is my area of interest and Reed wrote 2 of the earliest papers in this area in 1882 and 1884. My company is in the field of materials characterization and “garbage in = garbage out”. I’m trying to trace what happened to the Reed Propeller Company (formerly the S A Reed Propeller Company) and whether there’s an archive or museum that can be visited.
In particular I’m looking for non-web/non-internet material on S A Reed or S Albert Reed as I think he was known (S A Reed in a lot of his earlier publications) – I’d love to find a descendant (I believe his wife died young and there were no children from the marriage) who may have anecdotal, personal, or other information.
I do have a lot of publically accessible material from books and magazines and have probably exhausted all internet material. He was a fascinating character moving into insurance (classic treatise on the San Francisco Fire that followed the earthquake in 1906) then on to the one piece Duralumin propeller for the Curtiss D-12 engine; links with Fairey-Reed).
