Sywell Air Show – Sunday's verdict

What a cracking little show Sywell turned out to be and everything Damien said it would. What was nice was that it was a show with something for everyone and an entertaining show for the public with The Barnstromers flying under ropes and busting balloons, a WW1 scenario which included a new Fokker on the scene, aerobatic teams, glider with smoke and a good helping of warbirds, not to mention the Chipmunk’s 60th Anniversary gathering, – all set against a fantastic cloudscape sky! Met several forumites including Robbo and LesB.
Here are some of my shots to give you a flavour.

LOOKING being the operative word – I got kid duty – they dont normally question engine cc or VNE or pick up on my lack of knowledge!

Am sure I’ll catch you again and glad you had a good time!

The only problem there was that it came in on Saturday and I had no desire to sleep outside… I did spot you in the distance looking as though you knew what you were talking about while doing your flightline walk bit…
I take it you have sobered up now?

Wha
Well, with the obvious number of forum blokes at the thing I wish I’d met up with you all. Could have then relied on a concentrated ‘tractor-pull’ to get me off the grounds!

We’re really going to have to get some form of recognition symbol or summat. Must have been dozens of forumites there that day.

Yup, Regal, that would be me letting the scooty’s batt refresh itself. Young relative was 9 mnth old granddaughter. Very pleased to find she wasn’t put off by all the noise, seemed to enjoy it in fact. Pointed at most things and went “Coo” – which seemed to sum it all up really.

Les – nice shots – were you the gent in the buggy trying to snap pics of a young relative in between snapping pics of the aircraft?

Thing 2 – SkyTech’s little helo sat running it’s noisy gas turbine engine right in front of our section of the crowd all the way through the Spitfire’s excellent display.

Les – nice shots – were you the gent in the buggy trying to snap pics of a young relative in between snapping pics of the aircraft? I think that my mate and I must have been close by ‘cos the Hughes 500 was right in front of me, drowning out the proceedings on more than one occasion. But it was flown well, though.
Congrats to all involved in the show and hope they achieved their objective to raise good money for the Air Ambulance. Would certainly go again.

Must agree, outstanding air show, first ‘all prop’ show I’ve been to.

Good to meet with you Albert, and many thanks.

Two things . . .
Thing 1 – The grass was very soggy after the morning’s rain so I couldn’t get around as much as I would have liked – mobility scooty thing needs caterpillar tracks I guess, totally defeated by the soggy grass, kept digging in, so no traction and dead batt.

Thing 2 – SkyTech’s little helo sat running it’s noisy gas turbine engine right in front of our section of the crowd all the way through the Spitfire’s excellent display. Crowd at my end couldn’t hear the Merlin. Lot of muttering videocam owners around us.

Apart from that (and missing meeting the delightful CathB again, but my wife did I understand) the whole day was stunning – weather, crowd, displays, organisation. Couldn’t have asked for better.

Well done the troops of Sywell, will definitely go again (on dryer grass though  )
