Dear All,
Sorry to post this thread in such a sad week 🙁 butwe are in the throes of planning for the 2006 Sywell Show to be held on the 3rd September 2006….
After the success of last year’s show we want to make it bigger and better but we need your help – in fact its probably the only airshow in the UK where YOU the enthusiast and airshow-goer actually has A SAY in whats going to be there…. 😮
So we need
1) Positive aspects of last years show 😀
2) NEGATIVE aspects – what did we do wrong 😡
3) What you would LIKE to see at the show, more warbirds, specific aircraft etc – what ONE aircraft would make YOU attend (B-24, Stirling etc unhelpful- we have a budget to consider and it is for charity!)
4) What from a punters p.o.v. would make the show better, ie photographers enclosure, dancing girls etc 😎
Look forward to your views!
All the best

Wuss!
Mr B hope you enjoyed last night as the odd green thingy on all our posts used to say – you are now on a distinguished road………what happened to them by the way?

I didn’t go, so am not able to comment on the show itself.
Just a thought though… Do you really want to hold your event on the first weekend in September? It’s traditionally a pretty busy weekend for airshows; this year for example has Biggin Hill, Shoreham and a Shuttleworth Pageant all on the same weekend.

On the subject of multiple Cessna 150s, the Coventry Aero Club (?)put up a 5-ship Cessna formation at Old Buckenham a couple of years ago. Their line-abreast formation was a real surprise and something quite different. Would fit well at the “country-fair” feel of the Sywell show.

How about the Vodka Red Bull Air Race
I was going to suggest an air race – but not a serious one, nor a long one. Something entertaining to the GBP with a wide mix of types in it and a good handicapper to give an exiciting finish.
Fly bys can be boring and are much improved by quantity ie one C.150 is common to see flying by – but three or four together makes it better. Seeing three or four fairly common (or better vintage) types tailchasing can increase the interest too?

I personally like to see a varied display from WW1 through to the 50s. Not just military aircraft but classics such as the Staggerwing, Rearwin, Cub etc.
well, I can help on one of those.
Can put a word in for one or two of the others!

Red Arrows sure would get your ordinary folk off the streets and into the crowd, and modern RAF displays would be very nice and cool

How about the Vodka Red Bull Air Race !!!
Typhoon? BBMF? The utterly mad Chinook display?

It would be possible to have tiger moth trial lessons and also a Harvard opperating as well.
ooooh!!!! pennies getting saved starting right now, those are two types i have wanted in my log book for ages 😀

Thanks to all – like the ‘baddies’ idea!
Doncaster to Northampton in a Landie – thats dedication!
Hopefully the new resident Sywell display team ‘The Pommes Frites’ will be displaying…!

i was at last years show and found it to be exellent, i enjoyed myself thoroughly. one thing though, if the twin pin is there next time round how about getting A,A to do plesure flights?. and also (seeing as its a heck of a drive for me, and i suspect quite a few others) how about camping arangements?. i will hopefully be coming in my (RAF lookalike) landrover so it will take me ages to get there from Doncaster so camping is really the only option (both the night before and the night after).
just my 2pw,
thanks for last years show btw.
Greg
Thanks for your input, all noted. On the pleasure flight front, it was hopped that AA would do rides in the Twin pin, Rapied and or DC3 last year. However the cost involved to increase the catagory of fire cover to that require made it a none starter, and with the new charges coming in this will only get worse. It would be possible to have tiger moth trial lessons and also a Harvard opperating as well.

I wasn’t there last year, simply because I didn’t know about it! So, definately more publicity like ads in the aviation mags. However, I got the feel for it from the photos posted. Now you can always improve an air show if money is no object and I know this is a charity event, but if you are going to have warbirds, may I suggest you give them something to do? I mean like have a few pyrotechniques with something on the ground for them to ‘attack’. This always goes down well with families that can get bored with just a single plane zipping up and down the crowd line. Burn a few old tyres or have an old car with orange smoke pouring out of it with the ‘baddies’ in it. Just some ideas. 😉

There was a good three ship Chipmunk display at Rougham a few weeks ago, that was something a bit different. The Chipmunks were from DX, Howard Cook was one of the pilots.

Sounds great, i’ll be there! What aircraft are confirmed/planned to be there so far?
By: The Blue Max - 26th July 2005 at 18:29
Thanks for all the input, its all greatfully recieved. From what im getting the feel of last year and the content was about right, we just need to tighten up on a few things and improve the experience where we can.
By: TEXANTOMCAT - 26th July 2005 at 17:53
of course thanks in no small part to Janie….however with ‘our’ P-51, the delightful Susy now airborne I see the two ladies falling out!
From what I have gleaned from the old threads the majority of postees at the time really enjoyed the Mew Gull, Twin Pin, Butts, Hughes 500 display and Janie
You wanted More Classic jets, a spit of some sort, perhaps a modern aircraft Harrier, Typhoon, Herc (in fact we had one in 98 WHAT a display – full Sarajevo run etc =- wow)
Perhaps some 30s civvie types and a WW1 presence….
That about nail on head?
Thanks again for your help – please keep it coming
TT
P.S.
In case I’m coming across as the ‘great I am’ Young Blue Max was responsible for organising the show, Am on a fact finding missing for said Folically challenged BE owner)

Well what can you say. Last year I enjoyed pretty much everything about the show, other than the chuffing great tent in the middle of the crowd line. Nice selection of aircraft last year and a nice intimate location.
Aircraft wise, obviously everybody knows I am a little biased here, but other than the obvious I personally like to see a varied display from WW1 through to the 50s. Not just military aircraft but classics such as the Staggerwing, Rearwin, Cub etc.
Could always be worth writing to the various car clubs to get their participation with their members attending at a reduced fee possibly, from a personal point of view I prefer classic cars to green lorries, but I am a little odd. Although a correctly armed green lorry could sort out the freebie punters along the roads.
I guess all in all from an enthusiasts point of view last years show was great, the BBQ certainly was, however there needs to be a way of attracting the local man in the street, maybe something like the Dead Sparrows could bring a few extra people in???

Great! Just seen some past events, the variety of aircraft looks amazing, Hurricane, Catalina, Dragon Rapide, Vampire, Twin Pin e.t.c, if you get any of these to appear at the show i’ll definitely be there! Probably go anyway, only been to one airshow before and Sywell looks like my sort of show (not too big, local, interesting stuff)
