Sywell Airshow 2016

Following many enquires it is with regret that we would like to confirm that the bienniel Sywell Airshow will not be taking place in 2016.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those that have supported us over the years and helped us raise many thousands of pounds for the Air Ambulance and other deserving Charities.
Hopefully Sywell Airshow may return at some point in the future but in the mean time we hope that there will be a smaller more intimate event in August, keep an eye on the Sywell Aerodrome website, http://www.sywellaerodrome.co.uk for details.
With best wishes from the Sywell Airshow Team.

I am one of the Organisers of the Moth Rally and part of the Executive that took the decision to cease, a decision which was taken well before the Dec 2015 date of the letter. The proposed CAA charges were just a rumour at that time, the consultation only coming out on Feb 1st this year, and was not even considered in the process. The air display of the Moth Rally is just a small part, we could have simply not had an air display and carried on and not been affected by the proposed new charges.

People need to take a reality check. Some of the events now being trumpeted as being cancelled ‘because of the new charges’ were in fact doubtful for other reasons long before the consultation came out. I was at the BADA Symposium this week and heard first hand the reasons for the proposed new charges. We might not like it but the reasons are there. The consultation ends on Feb 29th, people need to respond to the consultation with reasoned argument. Or you could sign a pointless online petition.

The decision to cease Moth Rallies at Woburn was made in December for commercial reasons and has nothing to do with the CAA’s proposed increase in charges.

I have seen the letter from the Club announcing the cancellation of Woburn rallies. A number of factors was cited, the increase in CAA charges was specifically mentioned. True, it was not the only reason.

Another air show bites the dust and many more to come. Is someone going to start a thread on all the air shows cancelled this year so we can ‘tot’ them up. Only the big boys will be left!

“but in the mean time we hope that there will be a smaller, more intimate, event in August”

Would suggest they are looking at not incurring the CAA fees for a full sized airshow

I hope we aren’t going to need a separate sub-forum to list all the show cancellations this year.

I think we are heading this way……..it may be a case of which air shows are actually going to happen this year!

Sorry to hear this, but understand. Hope it will return before to long. Always a good show in the past.

I wonder, is it the CAA wielding the butchers knife with their charges that has sacrificed this much loved show?
