Sywell Aviation Museum – now twice as big – Grand Opening 7.4.12!

GRAND OPENING 7TH APRIL 2012 – READY FOR TAKEOFF!

Sywell Aviation Museum’s Grand Opening will take place on Easter Saturday, 7th April 2012 from 10.30am and this year will see the unveiling of two brand new display halls charting the history of the United States Army Air Force in Northamptonshire during WW2 and the impact of the German Luftwaffe across the County.

This marks the completion of a two year development of the Museum which has seen the construction of two new buildings entirely by volunteers making the Museum nearly double its original size. The new halls will be unveiled by the Worshipful Mayor of Wellingborough and a representative of the United States Air Force from RAF Croughton. Also attending will be military vehicles and re-enactors from the Troops Trucks & Stores Military Vehicle Group, Pitsford Home Guard will be undertaking drill http://www.pitsfordhomeguard.org.uk and live 1940’s music will be performed by The Blitz Sisters http://www.theblitzsisters.co.uk

Also anticipated is an air display by a WW2 Supermarine Spitfire fighter from the Hangar 11 Collection. http://www.hangar11.co.uk subject to weather and serviceability and possibly more special guests!

The event is completely free of charge and is guaranteed to be a great day out! Thereafter the Museum is open from 10.30-16.30 every weekend and Bank Holiday until the end of September, group visits being available outside those times. Many, many congratulations on putting together such a flying start to the season for the museum. How you and Peter Teichman conspired to create that timely break in the clouds, I’ll never know…. and as far as getting a BE-2, a Fokker DR-1, a Spitfire and a Messerschmitt all together on one airfield…. Well!

Great to see and meet so many forumites in one place…. not least T-21 and G-ASEA!!

Despite the biting cold NE wind a fantastic turn out for the opening ,the car park was full. A great thank you to Peter Teichman of Hangar 11 who gave a wonderful display in Spitfire XI PL965 from North Weald. The B.E.2c,Fokker Triplane and 2 Tiger Moths were parked close to the fence for the audience. Well done Ben and helpers in the new extension and to the vintage WW2 vehicles , Pitsford Home Guard and the girl singers for making it a good event.
Nice to meet G-ASEA and Low N’Slow. 🙂

Good Luck Ben.
I’m sorry I won’t be there but I hope it goes well.
I always get nicked for speeding when I come to Northamptonshire (especially Sywell) for some strange reason.

I will visit later in the year.

Crikey Dave, it’ll be a Blackburn Blackburn cockpit section, or a Martin Baker MB-5 control column won’t it!! 😀

Our extremely rare 20th Fighter Group mission boards have now been installed and look, well, amazing.

They are ultra ultra rare and absolutely superb..

Pray to the weather Gods folks!
