Been toying round with the idea of a kidlet ‘sit in’ cockpit at the Museum and I reckon a T-21 would be about spot on…would ideally be relatively complete and cockpit only would be needed…anyone any leads… G-ASEA is obvious starting point…any ideas Dave?

Glass fibre cockpit more durable try Grob Twin Astir/K-21. Richard Kilham of EES services at HusBos might be able to help. http://www.eastofenglandsailplanes.co.uk/

Couple of weeks ago I saw 16 dead Blaniks stored in one hangar in Lithuania!
A T21, Blanik or T31 all have a deep cockpit and not easy for kidlets to get into or out of. In that respect a lower, more modern e.g. glass cockpit might be easier (and safer). There must be some fuselages around which have been written off but the cockpit fairly intact.

Yeah well, the Blanik’s very nice but has always been prone to AD’s. This one will cost you 8-10K euros to rectify, and with most Blanik’s being high-timed (3000+ hours) combined with their low fatigue lifetime and low prices (4-8K) it’s just not worth it. I have seen grounded ones for sale recently for 800-1000 Euros including instruments, belts, hooks, the whole lot.

They use to make spare cockpits for T21’s but havent seen any since the late 1960’s. Last T21 we had hadn’t got the cockpit left. That went to Poland. At Lasham they did have a spare T7 Cadet cockpit some time back. I would think a T31 would be easier to get hold off. Have seen the odd modern plastic glider cockpit now and then.

Would it not be easy to build a stronger “replica” T-21 if keen on one?
Agreed re Blaniks – such a shame. Some rather upset glider clubs out there as a result. Just not economically viable by all accounts

From experience: T31 easy to find. T21 getting harder and harder.
BTW: I wouldn’t choose any of them as a plaything. Plywood is only 1,5 mm and they wouldn’t last a year. Bit of a shame then.
You’re much better off looking for a Blanik (alu), they’re cheap as hell nowadays as practically all of them are grounded due to wing attachment issues.

‘Demobbed’ under Slingsby Cadet might well find you what your looking for !

Yep either or DB (have fond memories of a T-21 which is why I mentioned it!)
Any leads folks?

If its just a kids plaything something like a K-8 would be a little more robust.
Alternatively if it has to be vintage a T-31 cockpit would be far easier to find than a T-21.
