I was at the excellent Prangins (LSGP) Fly-In last Saturday (13 August 2011). T-6 F-AZRO was there and I would like to know its history. It is disguised as a “Zero”, is in “Japanese” markings and carries 3443 on the tail. All I found so far on Air-Britain is that it was “Built by C Martin from an unknown T-6” (cn CM-01). A Search on this Forum gives no results. I think it was rebuilt by Salis for a film. Any information please? Thanks

I have checked F-AZDK: it crashed in July 1989, that is after the Air-Britain photo linked by TJ. So it could still be it!

Which would be this aircraft then.

I just had a reply on Aéroforums from J-L Bléneau that he thinks it is likely to be ex F-AZDK, as I suggested, above.

Good idea. Done!

Sorry. I’m none the wiser than the rest of you – in fact, probably less so! But Laurence, why not post the image and your question on Aéroforums. I’d be surprised if someone there doesn’t know.

Perhaps it was configured for the movie ‘Empire Of the Sun’ (1987) which used ‘Zerards’, and given that some Nords were also used, perhaps France was used to source the airframes.

I always thought that Spain was the source of the Empire Zeros?
Is this not the one rebuilt not so long ago by a group of apprentices as a Zero replica??

It’s just you!

Is it just me, or is ‘Prangin’ a bit of an unfortunate name for an airfield? :diablo:

You are right, Propstrike. I looked on the site of Aéro-Rétro, and there it is mentioned that F-AZRO took part in The Empire of the Sun. I have written to Christian Martin to see if he has the identity of the aircraft.

One possibility might be 41-33449-EX476-SAAF7295-Belgium H-8 -F-BJBE -F-AZDK. With Christian Martin (Aéro-Rétro) at St Rambert (where it is based now), reported crashed in 1989 (the cn CM-01 = C Martin builder)
But maybe the “3443” on the tail refers to 41-33443 – EX470?? But I have nothing on that one.

You have a mystery there, time for Avion Ancien to get his magnifying glass out! I have a number of ‘3443’ related to this aircraft but this does not seem to refer to any series of c/n’s.
