Hi
A couple of days ago I posted a notice regarding a T1083 radio and spare coils with manual which was up for disposal.
I see now this notice has been moved.
Dose anyone know why or where this notice was moved too?
It seems I have had a few offers from collectors world wide but the notice to others seems to have disappeared.
I thought this site was for those interested in preserving Aviation? π

As an aside, why is ‘ham’ radio called that?
I assume in some way it derives from ‘amateur’ but I’ve no idea how or why.

Wikipaedia has a section on this
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etymology_of_ham_radio
My late father was a pre-war ham (G3two letters) and always used the term “ham radio”. As medical students were a reserved occupation during the war, he joined the Radio Security Service “to do his bit”. He spent many hours in the evening and at weekends in shacks up on the moors intercepting radio messages from U Boats. He transcribed the coded morse messages which were then sent he knew not where. The messages went of course to Bletchley Park and the rest is history. He said he could always identify particular U-Boats by the “hand” of the signaller sending the morse message. Apparently everybody was slightly different.

Yes it’s a slang word for amateur.
All us amateur’s are known as radio hams.
Those type of radios are well liked by most in the hobby as well as others and generally get restored back to working condition as i have worked thats spoken to on the band using one.

Sneeky. I think you will find that the attitude is a little more relaxed when a regular poster mentions he has something to get rid of, as compared to somebody registering on the site and immediately offering items for sale as the sole topic of their first post.

Hi, Yes, a bit Hazy and you are probably right but it would depend on the interpretation of Product and Service.
It is not a product just a rare item of interests and itβs defiantly not a service.
Regardless, the notice has been removed and there is not much anyone can do about it, Thanks

Sneeky,
It is a bit hazy but best guess would be due to a violation of rule 6) Blatant advertising of products and services is unacceptable, if you wish to advertise please contact our advertising team on +44(0)1780755131 or email info@keypublishing.com
Hope this helps….

I think they don’t like advertising there has been discussion on why but my fogged mind can’t remember think it’s to do with if you want to sell it pay to put it in their magazines they been Key Publishing who host the site, fair enough I suppose.
I stand to be corrected if I am wide of the mark !
Thanks for this advice.
Its a pitty the unit is only available for a few days so I dont think the magazine will help, nevertheless I have had some great offers, but I was just wondering about the notice.
Thanks again..
