It seems like there is a lot of wasted space at the aft of this ship. Why didn’t they make the ship a little longer and use that space for a landing pad? Does anyone know if there are plans to use this space in the future for a SAM system, a towed array sonar system, drones, or anything??

So this ship can operate a MD-500MD/ASW helicopter from the aft position. Can the ship refuel the helicopter or is it just a landing pad? Does the ROCN have any plans to replace the ageing MD-500 fleet with a new naval helicopter or a drone like the MQ-8B?

ROC Navy aviation:
Sikorsky S-70C(M)-1/2 Thunderhawk (SH-60 Seahawk) United States SAR ASW Naval utility helicopter 19 Out of 10+11 ordered
Hughes 500MD/ASW Defender United States ASW Naval utility helicopter 9 Out of original 13 ordered
In any case, the rear deck can serve Vertrep. “Obviously”, if working with a helicopter on deck, it is to work with Defende rather than Sea Hawk. Although I can’t see what the Defender would add (or Sea Hawk, for that matter)
