Talking CCTV… Good or Bad

Saw in the Sunday Times about Middlesborough (among others) introducing CCTV masts with speakers so the operators can chastise people who commit littering, possible violent incidents, poor dress sense etc to embarass them into seeing the error of their ways.

Opinions…. Good or Bad?

Makes 1984 seem a bit tame doesn’t it? 🙁
Are any of our overseas colleagues on this forum aware of similar intrusions in their countries, or is it just here in the UK? Same goes with speed cameras…. sorry…. safety partnership cameras. Is it just the UK that has them half a bluddy mile??

We have something similar but nothing is said just a bit of sneaking about and BUMP:diablo:
As for civil liberties ,apparently your all ready caught on camera one hundred times a day ,your movements and habits are tracked through your credit or debit card usage, your monitored through your phone calls, mobiles can be tracked so they know where you are when out, funnily enough ,you even leave foot prints on the eather web, civil liberties, depends how you look at it, if all this hopefully stops the odd nutter killing innocent folk, tracking of pedos the systematic hunting down of organized crime,im in and if they fetch in id cards with dna,so, i have nothing to hide……..

It might interest you to know, that fortunately there are still places without CCTV. I visited a lovely village called Wantage, which is in Oxfordshire, and didn’t see one camera in the village centre. It really felt great, knowing that I wasn’t being watched by someone in a security control room, I felt like a free man. It just proves my point, that we are mugs , accepting all these snooping cameras into our daily lives.
If you want to live in a country, where your personal information is given to any old ” Tom Dick and Harry ” that’s fine by me.
Doesn’t anyone have a right to personal privacy any more, what a sad state of affairs we now find ourselves in.
Gone are the good old days, when we were a free country, and a free people.

In other words…snappy one-liners and put downs.

The factory just a short way down the road had just such a system “guarding” the employees car park.

Once the local yoof cottoned on, all you could hear some nights was an amplified voice shouting:

“Gerra way from my car you little b*****ds, p*** off home or I’ll come down after yer…”

😀

crackle crackle YOU, YES YOU, THE BOY IN THE BURBERRY HAT, PUT HER DOWN, DO YOU REALISE WHAT YOU ARE DOING. FER GODS SAKE MAN DO YOU REALISE WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO WAKE UP TO? GET THOSE GUINESS GOGGLES OFF. SHE LOOKS LIKE JO BRAND AFTER A ROAD ACCIDENT…. OH PLEASE FOR THE SAKE OF HUMANITY…….!!! 😀

Yup, could be an excellent job!!!

whats wrong with Jo Brand at any time…..????:dev2:

Reckon this would be one ‘ell of an idea….and what fun to be at the end of the microphone!!!

Seriously though , despite what some might think about the goodness of mankind in general , a warning shout may either put off a perp or for that matter attract the attention of others who may be able to do something to help a victim.

Bad Idea.

This CCTV business is a typical Big Brother idea. Once again our civil liberties of freedom, are being eroded. All that will happen, is it will encourage yobs to play to the camera for a laugh. They will want a reaction, from the anonymous person in the security control room. So they will put on the bad bahaviour, and the Police will have to sort it out.
This must be one of the daftest ideas I have ever come across.
I have a better idea. Bring back self respect and discipline, and get rid of those silly cameras.
We are unwittingly, creating a lost generation of idiots, and this country certainly doesn’t need that.

What’s next, on the spot lessons in good behaviour? 😀 😀

Great idea…but only if they’ll do as the others suggest:

dress and manners critiques… “How long has Ray Charles been picking out your clothes?” or “You, porky, you aren’t really going to eat those chips are you?”
chastising idiots for parking, littering, driving polluting cars…”get that banger fixed”…
dispensing birth control advise to amorous couples…”Hey, you two…”

In other words…snappy one-liners and put downs.
