Yes undoubtedly Ark Royal and Hermes, as Firebird says.
Scimitars with the Tigers head motif on the tail are 804 sqn (notice pilots Tiger striped helmet!), 15_ coded Scimitars belong to 803 sqn cross decking from Victorious, Sea Vixen FAW.1s are of 890 sqn with the early red witch motif, Gannet AEW.3s are 849 C flt, and that is a nice Skyraider AEW.1 in the final sunset shot.
It has to between July 1960 and September ’61 with those squadrons being aboard Hermes at that time.

I love that final Gannet shot with the wings folding, looks like two deck hands trying to tease a large lazy beast back to its nest with sticks!

I was wondering if the second carrier was HMS Victorious so a quick goole brought up this thread.

No, it’s Ark…see my post #8 above.

Now that has pictures of the French Jaguar Marine taking of and landing on a carrier.(#38)

Well that is something I never knew(perhaps I am the only one ignorant of that fact!)

Jaguars landing on Motorways in a thread this week and now this. What else has it done?

Sorry its drifting away from the original topic but it is aircraft landing on carriers!:)

The first vid has been posted before, discussion about the aircraft etc here, http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?t=103408

Can’t get enough of this footage though, and joluqua’s stuff is always worth looking at. There is a good RAF Shackleton film that he has worked on and posted up, he seems to find really good and unusual films, edits it really well and adds good music.

Wyvern if you keep an eye out on SKY TV there is a programme about the Buccaneer and it shows one flying just above ground level at the Blackburn plant..I taped it and if I can find it I`ll post it.

That Bucc take off at 0.45 is pretty spiffy

Awesome! I’ve just had to play it again and again. Two superb videos, and the links are pretty good, too.

I own a great video tape (narrated by the late Bob Holness) I bought it from FAA Museum Yeovilton (I must transfer these to DVD someday) It is packed with footage of Vixens, Buccs, and carrier life 60s 70s, and as yet, not on Youtube.

‘The Buccaneers’ & ‘Flying The Ark’ are both available on DVD now.

Edit: R12 is the Hermes, whats the other one? Bulwark?

The film was shot during Hermes first commission (1960-61), the second carrier visible is undoubtedly Ark Royal, the ‘965 single bedstead and ‘interim’ 5 degree angled deck clinch it. Eagle was at this time deep in refit (1959-1964) and was the only carrier to have both 984 and 965 ‘double bedstead’.

Bulwark had by this time become a commando carrier.

My dad was on the Bulwark way back, somewhere there are some pics he took of a Gannet going over the side…. not sure of the date tho, I think they were on the way to Suez.

What can the French teach us ???????

:p Those were the days……. Looks like Vixens from 892 Sqdn Hermes, Scimitars 804 Sqdn Victorious, AEW Gannets 849 Sqdn. I have lots of photos from this era. Will post one day. One day/night, we managed 204 sorties 🙂 Great film. Any more ?

Hermes and Ark Royal

Absolutely superb films, the lead carrier in the first film looks like Ark Royal before Phantomisation, mid to late sixties?, the buccaneer take off in the second film is awesome, thanks,:)

Brilliant films. Those Buccaneers flying literally at sea level were simply awesome!
