Tangmere – 16 August 1940 – Spitfire loss

LO-Q K9973 crashed at night 30/9-1/10 1939 near West Kilbride
P9463 was damaged in action by Ju87s Pilot HW Moody safe. “Their finest Hour” by Douglas MacRoberts states he set his damaged plane down at Ford but gives the date as the 18th also mentioning that this ws the second time in 2 days!
He also states that Sandy Johnston was in action with the Squadron on the 16th from Westhampnett so perhaps the action was on the 18th when he wasnt flying and his aircraft was undergoing maintenance. Mind you he could have used any aircraft that was in working oder if his own was not available.
I am a bit confused.

K9973 was LO-Q.

For no apparent reason this was dispatched to 4 MU on 4 November 1939 thence to Morris (Motors) for repair. It seems to have just been SOC on 10 November 1942.

I have low grade image from ebay download but serial not legible.

I don’t suppose there is mention of any other Spit losses at Tangmere on 16 August 1940? I have a feeling it was the only one.
