A few photos from Tangmere yesterday.
Its Hawker weekend at Tangmere so if you are out and about in the area this afternoon try to pop in. It was hoped that one of the BBMF Hurricanes would display but unfortunately the aircraft went u/s, but it is hoped that the flight will be able to sort out the problem and the Hurricane will make it today.
The museum is currently trying to raise funds to enable the construction of a new hangar to finally get all of its exhibits under cover, currently a temporary hangar houses the superb Hunter F5 WP190 and F6 Lightning XR753.
Finally a few photos from nearby Goodwood Aerodrome, including Harvard FT391 which I’m sure used to be part of the Harvard Formation Team.

Regarding the Harvard at Rochester, wrecks & relics 19 has it down as G-BKWZ while a short bit in FP (page 18May 2005) lists it as G-CTKL, I donโt seem to remember 2 Harvardโs there, what reg is correct. Or has it been changed?
Whatever it is, she looks lovely. ๐

Lovely pix thanks – think the confusion was that BN has just been repainted as has KL following her rebuild – look spiffing in early RAF camo IMO

Hi Ant,
Not sure why the wings are off the Meteor, unless they going to try to squeeze it inside over the winter.
I personally can’t see Tangmere having the resources to ground run the Lightning, but I wouldn’t be suprised if the get all the electrical systems back on line.

hmm,
Even with resources 53-670 wont ground run again, the wings were cut off.
Lightning, 53-671 ZF579 is the one being returned to Taxi/ground run.

The Hunter only moved out of store last month, so it’s good to see it again ๐

Thanks for the correction David, sorry for the confusion but glad to hear the population of Suez airframes is double what I thought. ๐

I guess the initial development plans were rather ambitious. Still well worth a visit though.

If it is indeed their new hangar they’d better alter the phase one development text on the website.

Believe it or not DB it is, just a quick tarmac base with a very light weight structure with corrugated sheet covering. When I say temporary it may be there for a few years until all the funds have been raised to build the new hangar.

Ant- the Hunter is one of two former 1 Squadron F.5 Hunters that survive and saw service in Suez. The other belong’s to the Wood’s up in Essex .

Colin thanks for the input, here’s a shot of the G-AZSC as part of the radial pair. Was it the late Norman Lees who used to partner Gary Numan?

Napier Sabre, the Medway Harvard was G-CTKL I flew in her numorous times when we used her for Radial Pair displays, will have to check out my Log book for dates we used her as a replacement while G-AZSC was in for a major.
I think I must look up some of my old harvard pics

Which Harvard is that? Is it the Medway one?

Found at Military U.K.
13132 to RAF as Harvard IIB FT391. To Dutch AF as B-97. To PH-HON. To G-AZBN 1971

Great pics Septic.I’ve been to Tangmere many times over the years and it’s a brilliant place,as much for the atmosphere and the smaller artifacts as for the complete airframes.
Interesting to see the Lightning and Hunter under temporary shelter, the last time I was there the Lightning was in the open and the Hunter was stored off-site. Any ideas why the F8 Meteor is missing it’s wings?
The Hunter is unique in being the only surviving complete Mk.5 and also the sole surviving complete RAF airframe to have taken part in the Suez Crisis. Am I right in thinking the Lightning is being brought up to ground running condition?
I won’t be able to make it today, but I’m going to be down on the south coast later in the week so I might just make time to drop by.:)
