But it wasn’t the Fire Brigade issuing that warning was it…..it was the Fire Brigade Union; I suppose they may have been worried about the additional risk to their members from all those ‘extra’ cans of petrol but then maybe they were worried about something else?

The advice was’t just from the FBU was it though. Some of the fire services are saying the same thing. And rightly so. If the great British public cannot be trusted not to panic-buy can they really be trusted to store fuel correctly?

Then again, they are only following government advice……

I am slightly suprised the government has made such a big thing out of this potential strike. Its either they have misread all the signals on this or they are using the thing to bash the unions and cover up for other things that are going on at the moment, or lastly they want a bit of extra tax income from a surge in fuel sales.

To suggest people should stockpile fuel is stupid to the point of dangerous and gives me visions of people having petrol can not only in garages, but splashing around in boot of cars or in houses and flats too.
For now this is a non event being hyped to cause public panic, and the public love a good panic from time to time, But not as much as the politicians who use it for publicity and popularity.

As for Maude’s advice about stockpiling – staggering.

The average car holds about ten gallons; the average domestic ‘jerry-can’ about a gallon so unless everybody in the country goes out and buys a proper five-gallon jerry-can (for every car they own) to ‘stockpile’ fuel then the total fuel consumption will go up by 10% short term (if everybody fills their can)…..and is that really likely to bring the country to a standstill?

As for the Fire Brigade worrying about fire hazard of petrol stored in garages I can assure them that there is a (plastic) container of petrol in my garage…

We’ve got 4 fuel containers out the back, not going to bother filling them up though, the strike is well over hyped IMO. I could turn out to be long running, but I suspect it will be a couple days tops! I walk most places anyway, it’s beautiful weather, would be a shame not to.

The whole affair has been disastrously handled by Maude and Cameron. They have created today’s shortages all on their own. The strike doesn’t even need to happen for there to be chaos. As for Maude’s advice about stockpiling – staggering.

I could not agree more Arthur! I suppose it wll keep the Fire Brigade busy when stupid Joe public nips into his garage with a fag on. Got to go now I have to get a box of matches to find a gas leak!

I’ve got around 330miles range showing, the tank is showing bewteen half and 3/4. Should be enough for a few weeks yet so no need to panic. Yet. I’m off next week so our trips out might need to be curtailed a little.
Noticed also that diesel has crept up 3p a litre since last week. Profiteering? I think so.
