Just watched this documentary and noticed a couple of things, so thought I,d ask the experts…
It shows F for Freddie,s engines being started a aircraftsman goes to each engine with what appears to be a bag, holds it against the engine whilst the pilot ( Pickard) flips a switch. What significant, is the bag?
At the end after Picard and his crew give their de-brief, the Intelligence Officer yarns, stretches and says to another officer, both non aircrew “well old boy, how about some bacon and eggs”. I thought only aircrew had b&eggs…
regards
jack…

I know that some ‘erks’ were keen to get on camera and some weren’t- my granddad was there, and definitely wasn’t!

Is the bag being used to ‘choke’ the carbureter?

I’d guess that it being wartime there was some pressure not to reveal on film just how short of food even the RAF was?
