Target Towing Relics

Hi a newbie here so will brace myself for the unknown.

My query relates to the much maligned RAF subject of Anti Aircraft Co-operation / Target Towing. Whilst the majority of my resource relates to specific unit histories I have become interested in locating any remaining relics that may still be out there. I freely admit I am new to this game but I rarely see any related material on e-bay or surplus sites. How does one go about acquiring a sleeve or drogue target? or even parts from Type B winch; or do they just not exist any more?

Well thanks in advance for any advice.

Army co op and target towing.

Its a long shot, but if you find out from Royal Artillery records where all the gear went when 46(m) HAA was disbanded. 117 Battery had a drogue in the stores, it was given when we splattered it with 3.7 shot. I did NS with them. I think they disbanded in late fifties or sixties. I joined the RAF six months after demob from the RA.

Hi ZRX61,

H.M.S. Cambridge / Wembury Range, sadly no longer with us (shore establishment), a good find. I have a map from a No.691 AAC Squadron pilot showing the courses for the various co-operation requirements for Wembury and Breakwater Fort I must try and dig that one out.

Tim

I picked mine up on a beach in South Devon adjacent to HMS Cambridge gunnery school….

Hi Pagen01,

Thanks for the welcome; I’am sure I have something on ‘D’ Flight, ‘G’ Flight and ‘O’ Flight of No.1 A.A.C.U. is there something specific you are after?

Regards,

Tim

Hi Andrew,

How, where and when and what will it take to liberate from your F.A.A. clutches?

Hi 2AACU and welcome abourd. You could be just the person I’m looking for, I am currently researching units of RAF Trebelzue, including 1 AACU and 1602 AAC flight with Hawker Henley TT.IIIs. They moved from, and believe returned to. RAF Cleave. Do you much about these units?
