The wife has to go to London for a day in early January with her manager – cheapest rail fare £76 each.
I have just done a quote on BMI for LBA-LCY and it comes in at a very reasonable £38 each. BUT the ‘applicable taxes, passenger service charge and insurance surcharge’ are coming in at almost £48 each – on the Heathrow route they are £39 each. There is no breakdown of these figures, but £48 seems high – is LCY an expensive airport for airlines to use?

You got it in one, LCY attracts much higher charges for everything, and is I believe the most expensive airport to operate out of in Europe.
