TD248 has engine run!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 12-02-02 AT 02:10 PM (GMT)]I thought the TD248 lovers among us would like to know that I’ve just watched her having her engine run here at Duxford…I believe it is her first engine run since her accident last year, as the last whisper I had on her was that she was waiting for a new prop…so one of my very favourite Spitfires will be taking to the skies again before too long 😉

Ashley, your over-excited Duxford Correspondent 🙂

I didnt mean that literally. What I meant was whatever was bust would be in store and simply replaced.

RE: TD248 has engine run!

Without having any specific knowledge of the extent of damage done to TD248, I very much doubt that it would have been a case of slapping a new fuselage in! I’d guess that HFL surveyed the structure, found it was structurally sound, and then set about relacing the bits which had been damaged.

Anyway, surely if you replace a whole fuselage, the aircraft takes on the new fuselage’s identity, as the fuselage contains the data plate on the firewall…

And sorry about the ferret brushing joke. For the benefit of any Animal Liberators out there, I’d just like to add that I am wholly against animal testing, as it’s totally unfair. They don’t always know the answers.

I’ll get me coat…

They probably have enough Spares to build her from new, so if the fuselage was buggered they would have slapped a new one in. Whats going to happen with the other Spit that was to be painted similar? They will probably have to wait till ‘248 is fully certified which could take a bit longer?

And Seafuryfan…I believe that the damage to TD248 was not as severe as initially thought…once they got down to working on her I think it was an easier task than expected…I was just so pleased to see her yesterday 😉

Yeah Ashley Cheers. Can’t believe they fixed her so quick – press said she’d be out for ages. Brilliant!

Moggy, I’m so glad you added the second bit. I was having some very bizarre visions of someone vigourously brushing black kiwi shoe polish onto a pet ferret and muttering “Shine, you bu&&er, shine!” Sorry folks, giving hints of my sense of humour away there… 😉

Anyway, great news about TD248, thanks for letting us know Ashley.
