TE184 question!

Amongst a load of aviation related slides donated to the museum is one of TE184 sitting on a small grassed area edged by a low brick wall. Behind it is a low-rise row of flats. The code ME-M is carried in yellow.

Can anyone tell me where & when this slide might have been taken?

Sadly I can’t scan slides otherwise I’d post an image.

Geoff.

I remember seeing it in the Finningley museum hangar with its yellow codes letters. Here’s a quote from its entry in “Spitfire Survivors” 1986 edition …

1952 saw a move to No. 1855 Sqdn ATC at Royton, Lanes., and here it remained on static exhibition until February 1967, when it was removed and taken to RAF Bicester before moving on to Finningley to join the Museum Collection there. Superficial restoration work was carried out and the codes “ME-M” applied in yellow, but in August 1970 it was transferred to No. 5 M.U. Kemble for restoration and respray as “LA-A” prior to its delivery to No. 23 M.U. Aldergrove in late 1971 for storage on behalf of the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum at Cultra Manor.

It would seem the photo was taken during the period Feb 1967 and August 1970.

The slide was taken from the 8 O’clock position, & there is nothing military looking in sight.

LR email will be sent ASAP.

TE 184 Question

Hi Geoff

I suspect this was when it was at Finningley in their Museum which is where it went after appearing in the Battle of Britain film.

I have a special interest in this aircraft as it was our Air Cadet Squadron Gate Guard from 1952 to 1967.

Could you please email me: david AT craiglands114.co.uk

Ah, hmm… I’ve seen a pic of this Spit in those markings (while she was still in low-back mode), and I think I threw the mag out!!

Not sure the flats were in the background of that pic, though.
