She look sumptious, well done to all concerned. Hope to see her on the circuit in the not-too distant future!

A picture of this bird, which I took when visiting the BBMF on 2 September this year. In my view the superb craftsmanship gone into this restoration was already clearly visible.

Great job!! She looks almost ready for her first flight.

That roundel blue sure does look “iffy” and the red is pretty suspect too on my screen… 😮
Instead of blues and twos, the roundel police have blues and reds…..
Nice touch with the sky fuselage band overpainted in Ocean Grey on the MSG underside – that’s attention to detail

Personally, I couldn’t care less what shade it’s painted in-I think it looks great! well done to you and your team, Paul

Well done Paul – she is looking superb. Can’t wait to see this old girl fly, as i spent a lot of time with her at RAF Abingdon in the 1980’s. First Spitfire I ever sat in. 🙂

Fluffy and Co, I do believe you’ve gone and built an aeroplane there!

This is the second time in a week I’ve had to use this pic!

The X-Factor
that has made my day! – just stunning to see something so lovingly restored! BBMF you have the x factor!

Both colours used by yourself on our a/c:), the red is iffy as it is semi gloss where as the rest is matt. Red will be matt when rear fillets are fitted and painted

Thanks for the correction Peter ! It still has a large 9 on lower portion of firewall.

RW 382 started out as low back IX but subsequently had a packard engine fitted.
Steve.
The firewall has/had the large ‘9’ on the lower firewall…as had most XVI’s.
The movement card, before it was stolen, said Mk XVI and initially fitted with a Merlin 266 (Packard).
“It’ll all be in the book” Vol II next year. (Vol I…next month)

funny !
well you ask a simple question…………….
OK going on what ‘Bruce’ states earlier
MK9 = RR Merlin
Mk16 = Packard
therefore should’nt PT462 & SM520 be
XVI(T) or Tr.16
“DISCUSS”
By: DazDaMan - 18th September 2010 at 15:20
OK then, what are PT462 & SM520 as both have Packards ???
Spitfires…?? :diablo:
By: Mark V - 18th September 2010 at 14:23
Will TE311 have a RR merlin engine or a packard verison??
It looks like it has an engine now, appears to be a Packard Merlin (probably a 266) as there is no seperate inter-cooler header tank.

Broadly, and there are also minor detail differences,
Mk 9 – Rolls Merlin
Mk 16 – Packard Merlin.
