This pic was taken by an A.Net photographer over Glasgow. He thinks it may be a Lufthansa A340.
Any further ideas ?

I agree with Hand. I think it’s a Caravelle. I had to fly one (a sim) for assessment for my current job!

The Air Canada A340’s are just as frequent visitors to LHR as the A330’s and much more frequent than the 747’s in my experience.
Last time I was at heathrow there were 3 A340’s on the ground and nothing else!

Air Canada operate a real variety of aircraft into London Heathrow – the A340, 767-200 (possibly -300 too) and the 747-400.

Elias,
Most of the AC birds in LHR were, in fact, A330’s. Since those and their A340’s are both series 300’s, then I would think the seating arrangement would be rather similar. I saw the A340 there on the 24th of this month. 2 years ago, their 747’s were very abundant. This time, I didn’t see any. Could you provide the link of the website with all the timetables? I’d appreciate it.

Indiana Jones and the search of the Mystery Airbus
GreekDude,
I had a look at timetables of OAG Worldwide (it is a database that has available all the timetables of all the airlines around the world per month per year!!!!)
Currently Air Canada operates A330’s, B767’s and from LHR and B747’s so the A340 bird you saw there must be a rare visitor to LHR. I talked with a friend who knows more about Air Canada and told me that because of similarities between A330 and A340, Air Canada sometimes sends an A340 to LHR…
As far as the mystery as to which nationality is that “girl”, I asked him to take a look at the picture and he couldnt figure either if it was an Air Canada or Air France or none.
People is it possible to determine the day the shot was taken? Perhaps it could help us narrow the possibilities…..

I concurr on both fronts. In fact, I saw an AC A340 in LHR just 2-3 days (not years) ago. I agree that it also has to be either AC or AF, and not OA or LH.

People, if you examine closely the picture even further you can see that the engine nacelles look white.. also I believe the belly is white and the grey that we see is just a reflection… so I think we are narrowed to two options
Air France who have white engine nacelles and white (dirty)
Air Canada who I think they also have white nacelles and white “body”

Bhoy… yes I think it could well be a shadow on the underside… at that distance it would be virtually impossible to distinguish between light grey and white.
Its definately not Olympic… the end-most tail cone section is white on the glasgow shot… Olympic’s are dark blue.

I have studied this image now for several hours, have searched the net and through all my books. I’ve even asked a couple of mates to have a look at the picture. I am now prepared to reveal my findings…….
I can categerically confirm, unequivocally and without any fear of contradiction, that it is, indeed…….
an aeroplane 😀

If Olypmic fly over Scotland then i would definitly place my bet on that
By: dan330 - 26th June 2003 at 22:58
It looks grey, but not sure if it looks THAT grey.
When I first saw it I thought it could be Olympic, still fairly grey belly but a much lighter shade of grey.
