I am looking for some technical information on the de Havilland Goblin turbojet.
Information like compresssor size, number of blades, mass flow, system pressures, temperatures, flow speeds, turbine blade materials….
Also any detailed history of its development.
Many web searches and book searches have not yet come up with a source.
All help appreciated.
Thanks,
Steven

Goblin data
No problem Steven, the manual i have gives a reasonable review of the development mods carried out on the Goblin, through it’s four main upgrades.
If you need more i can supply it, or lend the manual if easier.
It may be particulary useful if you get a similar level of gen on other engines, and are able to compare their development.
The manual is dated 1956 (issued at Thorney Island) and in general the improved performance detail appears to be as a result of higher performamce metals being used ( in the main Nimonic 80) and improved fuel / oil pump delivery systems and therefore servicing schedules.

Goblin Data
Thanks Paul,
I am putting together some material for a website on the Goblin. This information is needed for a comparison with other engines of the same period, and to look at how they were developed.

Hi Steven
Info based on wht you wanted, compressor dimensions not noted. Most of the data is Goblin III (35B)
Air mass flow 60lb / sec
Air / fuel ratio 58 / 1
Turbine inlet temp 790c
Max fuel pump delivery pressure 1060 (+ or – 30 ) psi
Blower pressure ratio (overall) 3.3 to 1
Blower pressure ratio intake delivery 3.75 to 1
Oil consumption(max) 1.5 – 2.0 pints per hour(oil capacity 12 pints)
Oil pressure normally at 10,250 rpm 35-45 psi
Turbine rotating blade material – Nimonic 80 (drop stamped)
Turbine disc material -Hecla 153, D7 Jessops H.3.A. (drop stamped) in G III changed to Nimonic 80
A 17 blade impeller guides air into 16 passages / combustion chambers at a pressure of 20 p.s.i. at the diffuser passages and 40 p.s.i. at entry to the chambers.
GII had Dowty fuel pump system , later modded with fitment of Lucas fuel pump equipment.
If you require more specifics i’ll track down what i can from the manuals etc.
