Well I couldn’t believe it either, but its true.
Today, Teesside airport have announced that from 28th January, they will operate a daily flight to Rome from Teesside.
Great news as I don’t think anywhere in the North East has a direct Rome link.

The low costs should stick to the tried and tested Alicante catering for the Benidorm bootleggers and the timeshare crowd. Valencia is a different market.

Surprised to see Valencia as a new destination! Hopefully it will be started from London too – Luton perhaps or maybe from Stansted to compete against easyJet on their new STN – VLC route?

Durham-Tees Valley as it is now called, I understand. Oh well since DanAirs demise few airlines have shown an interest in operating schedules from MME so I suppose they ought to be pleased that the arrogant Ryanair are coming in.

RYANAIR EXPANDS TO 17 ROUTES FROM ROME CIAMPINO
$120M INVESTMENT – 2 NEW AIRCRAFT
5 NEW EUROPEAN ROUTES TO GERMANY – SPAIN – UKRyanair, Europe’s No.1 low fares airline, today (8th September 04) announced it is to double the size of its base at Rome Ciampino to 4 based aircraft, representing a further investment of $120M, and also announced 5 new European routes from Rome Ciampino to Dusseldorf Niederrhein (Germany), Valencia (Spain) & Nottingham East Midlands, Liverpool & Teeside (UK).

I think EZY are starting a NCL-Rome service in October, but thats besides the point. Great news for MME, hope it works out for them.
