Hi,
I received this photo from a friend who visited the museum at Brooklands a few years ago. He remembers this cockpit section as a Hawker Tempest, but I think it looks more like a Typhoon. (Can’t see the 76 gallon fuel tank in front of the oil tank.)
Anyone who knows for sure? And if possible, which Typhoon/Tempest the section once belonged to?
Cheers!

Hi guys.
The Typhoon cockpit section at duxford was from a 56 squadron aircraft i believe, i have the serial number somewhere. As for the one that was at shoreham (which i helped build back in 1997) it went to the battle for normandy museum in bayeux, france.

Texantomcat – by all accounts, the ‘Typhoon’ cockpit section which went for 6k had a degree of artistic licence about it….

Typhoon cockpit section
Well there was the one at the late-lamented D-Day Museum – i think that went to Belgium for about £6k – but it was LOVELY…..
Any news of where the other interesting bits went….heard ARCO got the Spit…

Hi James,
Thanks for the reply!
I know there are a few Tempest cockpit sections around, and I hoped this was one of them but…. The search for photos of them continues 🙂

Hi Christer,
It’s a Typhoon. Don’t know the serial, but it’s the section that has been in the care of the IWM since the dawn of time (or as long as I can remember…) Used to be in Lambeth, the pic is taken at Duxford. Sorry, don’t have the serial though.
Cheers
James
