Can anyone help with the following.
I’m not a Tempest follower or expert but have come across a few wing panels which I think are Tempest related.
I have managed to find some numbers such as
D120 519 3 R11006
D121017 2 ISS 4 XX8300
D121 016 4 ISS 4 XX1842
D1 53123 I2
D120519 2 ISS2 R1006?
D1 ?? 704 ISS3
Do these numbers mean anything
I have attached some photos. There are 10 items in total but I can’t find numbers on all of them due to paint etc
The 5th photo is, I believe, a tail fin ??
Many thanks for any help

Hi there
I don’t know which Tempest the parts came from but suspect they are from the batch that Doug Arnold brought into the country some time ago.
Thing is they won’t fit the Hurricane project !!!! (lol)

Yes, Indian Air Force Tempest. That fin skin would probably be a useful reference for David Robinson – with the exception of the fin fillet the fin is Typhoon
Nice which Tempest did these come from?

As a relative outsider to Tempest/Fury stuff, I’d guess that the Sea Fury would have used a different, beefed-up, longer-stroke, main gear for carrier use.
Anon.

Flyingblind,
Undercarriage fairings were initially the same between all Tempest marks and the Sea fury, they were then cancelled for all Tempest marks by mod 402; I have no idea what this mod entailed. Tempest and Typhoon fairings were also different. It is my understanding that the Sea Fury used different gear legs, but this is from memory and I can’t recommend that you trust it when I don’t!

Hi Harvard 4,
We’ve found significant differences in the fin for the Tempest and Typhoon, the internal structure is quite different. The early Tempests would have used the Typhoon fin, and so far we’ve been unable to identify when the change happened; Tempest drawings dated 1942 do show the new fin, so it’s assumed it would have only been very early Tempests flying with the Typhoon fin. It’s a shame as both Typhoon projects could use an injection of parts/drawings for this area.

Thanks for the help guys
There was also a pair of under carriage legs and with fairings attached for a Sea Fury. Are these the same as Tempest/Typhoon or are the more ‘beefed up’

Tempest Skins
Hi Flyingblind,
D120519 is wing top surface covering for Tempest II, V and Fury I
I’m unable to confirm the other part numbers but can say the D121016/7 series would make sense to be Tempest gear fairing parts; I can confirm that the fin skin is Tempest; as the rib layout for the Typhoon is different. I would also suspect D1 53123 to be D125312/3 as part of the canopy, but it’s a stab in the dark. A Tempest guy with the schedule of spares may be able to help further.
