Hm, that Hawker jet looks like a Sea Hawk and a Grumman Cougar got busy down in the hangar deck…nice looking machine.
My British faves:
Hawker Sea Fury
Supermarine Spitfire F.VIII/PR.XI (purest iteration of the design IMO)
deHavilland D.H.91 Albatross
Folland S.E.4 (two-row engine, 4-blade prop, monocoque fuselage and bubble canopy…in summer 1914!)
Napier-Heston racer
deHavilland D.H.98 Mosquito
deHavilland D.H.103 Hornet
Airspeed Ambassador
Hawker Fury/Nimrod series (biplanes)
Fairey Scout/Fantome/Feroce
S.
(Couple honourable mentions…DH Comets–both the prop racer and the jetliner; Hawker Hunter; Mk 4-6 Fairey Firefly monoplanes and all the Firefly biplanes. Another list could be “coolest Brit aircraft”, which would include more of my favourites such as the HP Victor, the Beaufighter and the Westland Wyvern…unconventional beauties.)

Looked better as the Sea Hawk

In my humble opinion it has to be the Hawker P1081
No other aircraft as sweet as this

DeHavilland Swallow (Deadly but pretty)
Hawker Seafury
Hawker Hind/Hart/Audax/Hartbees/Demon
Hawker Fury/Nimrod
Hawker Tempest

Sorry, the Hunter is nice looking, but rather generic (IMHO). It looks like a dictionary drawing of what a jet fighter is supposed to look like.
I kind of agree with that, to me the Swift was the a far purer looking design, with its clean uncluttered fuselage, low mounted wings and tail assemblies, all fitted directly to the fuselage.
The Hunter looks more compromised wth the intakes breaking up both the cleaness of the fuselage and wings, the dorsal spine, and the added on bullet fairings, non flush airbrake, and link collector bulges didn’t help.
Also agree with your early Vixen choice, the original DH.110 was beautiful, and menacing looking at the same time.

This is obviously a biased opinion :-
Fairey Phantome
Hawker Fury
DH Comet (Take your pick either the Racer or the transport version)
DH Rapide
DH Albatross (see Matty’s piccie on post #8 – Wonderful!!)
DH Dragonfly (Ugly catagory goes to the Dragon – bless her)
DH Moth Minor
Airspeed Ambassador
Hawker Hurricane
DH Hornet

Spitfire
Comet (jet)
Firefly
Bulldog (biplane)
Mossie
Albatross
Rapide and family
Vulcan
Sea Vixen (early)
Basset (my dog made me pick that)
Sorry, the Hunter is nice looking, but rather generic (IMHO). It looks like a dictionary drawing of what a jet fighter is supposed to look like.

It always seems that we forget our early aircraft.
This should be in the list !
Or even in the “Cancelled Best Fighters List” !!
I would also add the SE5A.

Suprised no one has mentioned the PR.19 Spitfire 🙁
It has a certain simplistic purity that other Spit’s lack, helped in no small part by the basic colour schemes they wear (although my favourite iteration is PM631s old ‘invasion stripe’ scheme)
It’s also a tuned up, high performance version of one of the greatest of all aircraft, which in itself is quite something 😎

Glad to see the Comet 1 in there, but i think for jet has to be the Hunter. Piston id go for the DH Albatross, such nice lines and curves.
By: inkworm - 7th July 2012 at 15:38
SHar1, real shame when they tried to upgrade them, spoilt all the nice lines with that big nose
