Is there anything to see ? Going next week, don’t want to spend a week watching my buddies diving, so wondered if there is anything of interest, I think there was once a DC7 or DC6 at the fire training school at the north airport ? is that still there ? what can you tell me ???

Los Rodeos
The famous 747 accident happened at Tenerife North. It is still a busy airport and you would not be able to access it. From what I could see, nothing remained last spring.
The crash site is clearly visible from the TF-24 and the Camino el Matadero roads (San Cristobal de la Laguna), and can easily be photographed from these locations.
It is also clearly visible on Google Earth.
While I was there in 2006, I spoke to an airport employee. He mentioned that on occasion, parts from the 747s become jammed in the cutters of the mowing machinery.

Last year it was moved to another location. It can’t be seen anymore from the other side. BW Roger

When I went a couple of years ago the Viscount was to the east of the terminal. Could be seen well from the road on the other side of the airport(take the motorway exit before the airport if coming from the south). Apart from that TFN is just inter island flights with ATR’s,Iberia,Spanair, the airforce and about 30 light at the aeroclub who are very friendly. Just the ‘buckett and spade flights’ at TFS.

Yes, it is still there, in a bad but complete enough condition. BW Roger

The DC-7 was located at Las Palmas (different Island). It was scrapped last December. Here is a photo I took of it last spring when it was waiting for the scrapman:eek:
Isn’t the other DC-7 still standing on the hill at the other airfield at Las Palmas? El Berriel…

If you do a search at Google Earth, you will see the Viscount at the airport. It is a bit hard to find, as it is not near the terminal. I missed it in last May, as I was told it was scrapped. But on take off, I could see it in perfect condition. BW Roger

It will be the 32nd anniversary. “Tenerife” was my first job as a 17 year old one. I am now writing a book on the crash. BW Roger
