On a holiday to Tenerife I made a couple of very brief visits to Tenerife North airport. It has to be one of the most scenic airports I’ve been to. Weather is very unpredictable. It can be sunny one minute and then the mist can roll across in no time at all. There is a fantastic photography vantage point overlooking runway 30 for arrivals and taxi shots. I did manage to get a brief slot of sunshine on the first visit but on the second visit (to get the Santa Barbara 767) it was quite misty and later on the weather closed in and visibilty was poor. I can quite understand how that terrible accident happened in 1977 considering where the airport is situated.
Shots from Tuesday 26th Feb…

Second visit on March 1st…
The mist rolls in…

The weekly Santa Barbara service (twice a week in the summer)…

The Binter Canarias and Cargo ramp…

Air Europa takes off in the mist…

Hope these are of interest.

Im suspecting all the ground radar, weather, TCAS etc have made TFN much safer than it was in the 70’s. Remember Britannia offered a service to TFN around 5-10 years ago.

Cheers folks. @Newforest – yep shooting north. The sun is good between about 11am and 5pm this time of year.
Cheers Eddy. Yep been on quite a few trips recently. Off to Palma again end April (although might be a bit too early in year) and finally getting to Istanbul and Antalya in May.
@farnboroughrob – Wow that Santa Barbara DC-10 was amazing. I wished I’d seen that beauty.
I’ll share my TFS shots soon….

Been to TFN several times, always lovely weather at TFS, always awful at TFN!
SBA used to operate YV- DC-10-30’s on Fridays but its been the 767 for the last couple of years. The Viscount was still there a year ago it’s been moved down to the Aeroclub end. There was talk of preserving it as a cafe.
Sadly had to forgo my yearly week in February on the end of the runway at TFS as the apartment is fully booked!!!

Nice ones Gary, looks like you get more holidays then I do at the moment.
The 757’s are YV but the 767’s are leased, this one from Smart Lynx Lithuania
They also have a leased 767 from Iceland air.

Presumably all photos taken facing north?
All SBA aircraft are Venezualan registered.
No sign of any lingering Viscounts? 😉

Very unpredictable weather, but some good catches all the same.
I though the SB Airlines was on the N-Reg, apparently not.
