I read in the papers that BA have kicked Qantas out of terminal 5 because there wont be enough space. They will be using terminal 3 instead. Is this true?
Are they still going to go ahead with the A380 capable stands or are they not bothering because BA have no A380s on order? Ot is it a possibility that BA may order them in the future?

How is the transfer idea around heathrow these days. I’ve not done it in ages (went BA domestic from manchester connecting with American to Miami).
If I remember correctly will transfers not be via bus?

I stand corrected Phil. Just shows how yesterdays plan becomes todays chip wrapper.

How are the transfers between termiNals 3 and 5 going to work for oneworld? Are they going to build a tunnel between the two terminals to improve transfers or something?

And Australian flights as well – apparently to keep the cohesion with Qantas.
Not saying that isn’t correct but I haven’t heard this at work.
Don’t forget the T3 issue isn’t something BA wants, it’s something that will have to happen. So it’s not really about keeping ‘cohesion’ so much as making the best of a less than ideal situation. Ultimately everything will be at T5 so there will be no common terminal with any of the partners airlines.

T5 is a seriously large structure.

When T5 opens only one satellite will open so for upto the first couple of years some flights will operate from T3. At the moment this is planned to be South America and Spain (to link in with IB) but has not been finalised. Once the second satellite opens all BA flights will operate from T5, shorthaul from the main terminal and longhaul from the two satellites.

T2 was never very pleasant inside, however I will miss the LH lounge on the upper level of T2 that offered superb views of landing aircraft and movements around the tarmac at a decent vantage point.

I was under the impression that T2 was closing and being demolished to make way for the new Heathrow East Terminal, not because of lack of traffic.
1L.
Well it’s both – BAA have deliberately left T2 empty and without traffic in order that they can say “look it’s empty” pull it down and build Heathrow East.

Also is this ALL BA flights going to T5 or just internatinoal/selected domestic.
Some spanish flights will be operated from T3 along with (I think) some Japanese ones (?)
See my post #36 above.
Terminal 2 will close when terminal 5 opens.
This is due to the reduced amount of traffic

So
T1 Star Alliance
T2 Nobody
T3 Oneworld
T4 Skyteam and the rest
T5 BA
How will this work for BA and the Oneworld alliance on connecting flights (in terms of transfers). Also is this ALL BA flights going to T5 or just internatinoal/selected domestic.

BAA have announced that Terminal 2 will close when terminal 5 opens.
This is due to the reduced amount of traffic passing through it not makint it economically viable to stay open.
Well I think its what we all expected but nice to see it official from BAA finally.

I wouldn’t say considerable.
The main T5 building (T5A) has no ability to be expanded, but there is scope in the design of the satellite buildings (T5B and later T5C) to allow for additional gates to be added at the ends.
Talking about the operation, not the building!

Also T5 is indeed big enough for the whole BA operation, and has room for some considerable expansion as and when it’s needed.

Thanks for the clarification there, OneLeft – some people just won’t be told! :D…

What’s the current state of play at T5 ? When is it due to become operational?
T5 will open at 04.00 hrs on 30th March 2008.
By: OneLeft - 22nd March 2006 at 23:30
Ok guys, checked at work. T5 will 100% certain only be BA. A key part of BA’s agreements with the BAA is for exclusive use of the terminal, and I might say we are paying through the nose for that agreement, both in monetary terms and conditions. The rest of Oneworld will be at T3, but I don’t know if that will be exclusively Oneworld.
