I was able to stay out of this thread before but I figured it worthy of posting this link regarding this “story”. From a website of debunking….

Fox News this morning swallowed it hook, line and sinker, but that’s a cr@p news channel anyway, unfortunately it’s the only English language one I have here!
The doubts I expressed in my earlier post #5 have subsided somewhat, I now agree that there is too much embroidery in the article, which may contain a small grain of truth but not much more.

An item on this subject appeared on CNN’s Newsnight programme. It would appear that air marshalls were indeed on the flight but could not arrest them as they were doing nothing illegal. Once the plane landed the group was taken aside and their credentials checked. They were, indeed, a group of musicians whose booking was checked before letting them go and there appearance at the appropriate venue also checked.

So basically, she’d be happy if McDonald’s were outlawed airside, seeing as how their bag seems to be her major gripe?
To be fair, I’d probably rather throw a McD burger down the toilet than eat it myself, too…

I hate to say “I told you so”, but what the Hell…..

Forget Political Correctness, people in this country (USA) have gotten so Anal about this sorta thing that it’s getting rediculus. They should hassle everybody, White, Black, Asian, Middle-Eastern, Native-American, Pacific Islanders… I went through hell last week in Canadien Customs, just because I was only staying 1 Day in Vancouver!! I was in Customs for about an hour, they went through my bags, asking me all types of questions, it was nerve-wracking! I’m thinking to myself, this is the way they treat their Neighboring Countries Citizens?!?! I do have some photos from the Fairmont Airport Hotel there in lovely Vancouver, which I will be posting soon, I hope…
Hmmm…. I did wonder a little about the lady when she went out on a limb to prove she wasn’t racist by citing her Indian experience ? It’s possibly very easy to be racist on American airliners just now, maybe justified, probably not ?
Comments like being “an aware American” reminded me of the Hitler Youth and will only provide fodder for the next Michael Moore movie. People are scared of flying in the USA just now and rightly so after 9/11 but there’s a fine line, or should I say indistinguishable line, between fear, paranoia and sh*t stirring.
What can you do ?

Having now read PPRUNE I feel a bit better about my next venture into US airspace!
By: DarrenBe - 21st July 2004 at 19:46
There was a thread on PPRUNE regarding this article and also links to other sites discussing the story.

I’m with Grey Area on this one,it all seems just a little too hard to swallow. Could it just be some paranoid american reading too much into every little action. You couldn’t have written a more complete scenario for a novel. I’m sure we all know that security on internal US flights has always been a little slack but after 9/11 surely even the Americans couldn’t be that dumb!
are you sure about that?

I’m not so sure about this.
Anybody on here know the person who wrote the article, or anyone else on that flight?
Do we really think that the US Government would have had nothing to say about 14(!) Syrian passport-holders acting in such a frightening and blatantly suspicious manner, and that they wouldn’t be milking it – right now – for all the political capital it was worth?
Do we really think that none of the other passengers would have spoken to the press or TV news about their ordeal, or even sued the airline, the TSA, the FAA and everyone else up to and including Father Christmas?
Really?
Something just doesn’t add up here.

I agree with Hand all the way. I don’t fly to the US until November but I have no concerns now nor will I have nearer the time. What does annoy me are the discrimination laws where, it would appear, only two Asians can be checked thereafter airlines can be fined. OK, one shouldn’t discriminate but when it comes down to airline security then if they want to check and search the whole damn plane load then that’s fine by me and to hell with the political correctness lobby.
Here here!

I haven’t stopped thinking about this since I read the report.
Papa Lima – I’m with you, I feel quite nervous about something happening now. Before, I took it in my stride but now this gives me the feel of imminence.
This is scary for 2 reasons; one because it may actually happen and two because the desired fear factor is already happening and I am sucumbing to that.
By: Hand87_5 - 21st July 2004 at 13:45
I for one am a whole lot more nervous about my upcoming USA trip (which includes several domestic flights) than I was 10 minutes ago!
Nah. Just think twice. You take more risk diving your car or crossing the street that flying in the US believe me.

Seems very sinister indeed ? It’s hard to rule out the possibility they weren’t conducting some sort of rehearsal for an attack. That’s the trouble, you just don’t know and terrorism is all about creating fear isn’t it ?
By: Pembo330 - 21st July 2004 at 11:57
This story has scared me.
I hope like hell this isn’t something sinister.
