TFC Beaufighter – 7 Jun 08

A quick trip to DX to get a few record shots of the Beaufighter now that wheels are on and tail attached. It’s a bigger bit of kit than I realised and well done to all involved. Sally B now has its troublesome engine removed.

Good point – well made !

Because it looks pretty and we choose to! Is that a problem?

Beaufighter looks wonderful, have been watching it for as long as I can remember going to Duxford – would love to see her at least out on the tarmac with an engine or two fired up. Lovely work……

always had a thing about the Beau since I was about 10 and made that old Matchbox 1/72 scale model with the rockets and torpedo – ugly as sin, but who cares !

What on earth is the point of hanging the rudder on it when it will have to be removed again for covering etc???? I could see it being a “dry fit” to make sure it fits, but that only takes a few minutes..

This is from the TFC website regarding the engine/props

The rudder has still to be added to the tail. We have one engine in store but have completely failed to get anywhere in our search for propellor parts. If anyone can help us track down prop hubs or prop blades – then we desparately need to hear from you.

Good night all

Australian redesigned if you bother to read the link

actually i did bother,

“Wing internal fit is not complete but enough progress has been made for us to contemplate fitting the outer wings in the next twelve months. The restoration of the outer wings is proving to be very interesting. One wing is British built, the other Australian. The Australians made many changes to the British design in the following areas. Aileron shrouds in metal instead of wood and metal, gun bay doors in metal in place of wood, pressed nose ribs in place of the fabricated British type, different layout to the landing lamp area.”

so mainly changing wooden parts for metal, and redesigning other little aspects makes it entirely austrailian? i really cant see the point in this argument, i dont care where it goes really as long as it flies!

OO hes got you there

But i think it should stay in the UK but it is abit of a 1 sided opinion

Either way its good to have back in the skies

Well done to all

i think the problem is (that has been mentioned here before) one of the owners/ the owner is not allowed to fly single seat twins in this country (the reason the tigercat went to the us?)

i do hope it stays, a truly unique aircraft that should stay where she belongs. 🙂

Is the beaufighter still up for sale? as it would be a massive shame to loose another british type to another country especially since the project has come this far.

But the Blenheim with a mark 1 nose and the beaufighter flying together would make a sight to behold.

How about sending money to the releveant organisation as a way of placing your “bets”. I’m sure that donations instead of idle speculation and guessing would be appreciated.

The Blenheim, simply because it has engines!

tough to say, beaufighter looks to be closer to flight, but then again the teeny weeny problem of the lack of serviceable engines!

im not going to guess to be honest, it will be a close call, depends on who has more money! 😉

Do We Have A Bwian (said with a very limp wrist and Lisp!)

The Pen Is Mightyer Then The Sword .

And you prove it mate! 😀

G’ day and great Shot’s Brian 😮

Ok the Oz Beau got me here , Was like a beacon really, Like an outback Aussie dunny to swarm of bush Blowy’s :p. on a 40c day…….you will work it out I’m sure!:D

My Gdad Jim Pfeffer was a RAAF Erk WW2, and worked on Beau’s way’s up north, and over in New Guinea, Mors and over the other side of Stanly’s when finally taken.

Also he worked on em here at Fisherman’s bend, Preston Nan said he was heart broken, when he saw all his beloved Beau’s lined up along side Geelong road.

Then all were executed, and turned in to Pot’s and Pan’s 😡 🙁

Met another Ex RAAF Erk one day called Leo, while I was doing volunteer work for the MS society Victoria.

At a Nursing home, he was fixing up there garden’s and i helped him some and starting chatting, a DC 3 flew over on it’s way to Ess drome.

He noticed I followed with me eye’s it till gone, and asked i I like Aircraft 😮 😀 well ya can guess what i said……….

Turned out he even new my Gdad Jim, and served with him and worked with him at the bend on all sort’s of aircraft. I was dumb founded 😮

I spoke to him many time’s after that day, and Leo told me more about my Gdad’s WW2 service and life at the bend the he ever did 😎

Pitty Ole Gdad Jim, was not still around by then, he may have enjoyed catching up with Leo, maybe not, I am not sure.

He said very little about his WW2 service life, and may have had hidden scar’s, from service life in Papua, can remember h said it was stinkin hot.

Once I heard him mention the loss of all those Wirraway’s, wiped out over Rabaul by the Zero’s, telling my Uncle that they in charge had no right to send those aircraft too Papua at all, barely fit for just training .

Ok from what I heard on Dave’s Kiwi forum, the Bris 170 rebirth, the donk’s of a 170 are going in the Beau, is that correct ?

Is that the final problem solved to a Beau flying again ?, and just how many 170 donk’s are there for other Beau project’s ?

Ah the B-17 donk’s bout the only real fault they had I reckon, the Alison V-12 job flew great, but never came to anything.

And course the B-29 Donks’ Still give trouble to this day, I have a Pic here somewhere when Eddie Allen and crew crashed one of the Proto’s on the Meat work’s after a major engine’s fire!
(slighty censored cause she was still secret)

Believe now hybrid built yank donk’s will now sort out some of Fifi’s many misery’s, mixing the best of there big round donk’s.

😀 Oh and can we pleeese have the Beau back when it’s finished, I still spew about JUST JANE!!!!! 😡 😀

Ooooooo Roooooo for now………………….CROC’S RULE!!:dev2:

I say Blenheim. Both have excellent teams with lots of experience. But not to forget, the Blenheim team has done this (unfortunately) a couple of times already!!!
