For those of us with long memories.
In the 1995 Flying Legends program, on page 4, last paragraph. It says: βThe Fighter Collection has just acquired a G.55 which was converted into a G.59 single-seater in the post-war period; the aircraft will be restored to flight.β
In the last 10 years what has happened to this project?

According to a FlyPast article a good few years ago, the Fiat should have a more elaborate scheme but the Italian millitary are not keen about civil aircraft carrying unit badges and codes. Hopefully when it makes a return to full health it will be able to visit the UK again, I would love to see it!
I didnt know about this, and honestly I dont think it’s true.. The ITAF museum donated original ww2 stencils to a a chap I know for his Avia FL.3 some time ago, and helped him to obtain the permission to fly with the Regia Aeronautica roundels too. Most of the time it’s a matter of accuracy of the owners..
I partecipated to the building of a Fokker Dr.I replica here some time ago, the owner asked me to redo all the stencils and lettering according to the original drawings. He painted it like the Paul Baumer’s Fokker, but he made me do a couple of customizations I didnt appreciate.. Sometimes it’s just a matter of taste I guess.
Moggy u r right, it’s a Bell 47, seems like he as at least 7 of ’em!

It might be the case that the Fiat misses a few unit badges an of course I wouldn’t mind if they would be painted on the plane.
But I’ll get in line to see the return of this interesting bird.
Thanks for the additional info about the authenticety of the sheme will J.

Thanks for those pics yakrider. I have a videotape of with this fiat at Legends in 1995 but it doesn’t give a clear vieuw of the plane due to the big distance between the camera and the plane. It’s great to see the simple but very nice sheme on this fiat.

Here’s a pic of I-MRSV at Legends or was it still Classic Fighter then?
Any help on the date much appreciated.
Paul
I believe that belonged/belongs to Pino Valentay/Valenti (sp?), and is based in Italy. It appeared at numerous Legends’ in the 1990s, making its final DX appearence at FL2000.

I remember the silver Fiat thingy at Legends in the late 90’s. The Spotty one was over at Silverstone last weekend with the Grace Spitfire.

..what I can tell u is that this solution comes from the french planes of WW1, since we had many of them and decided to stick to that standard. There surely must be a reason for it, but what is for sure is that it caused many accidents to pilots switching from a plane to another.. as per your comment..well, nevermind..

Hi
The G59 here is a great airshow performer and very popular – there was a report a while back that it had been sold but obviously a little premature. It is in a psudo Italian camo scheme at present and looks the part even if a bit of licence has been taken with it – you can see various pics of it on my webshots account if you like.

we even have a flyable G.59B here. It appeared in U-571 as “the nazi plane” and is owned by Pino Valenti. The plane is being overhauled after a wheels-up landing and it’s close to be flyable again. π

I remember her from Legends shows, Will be great to see her again,When did she have the mishap?.
By: italian harvard - 16th June 2005 at 23:28

The day I was there I saw the 59, a G.46, a SNJ 5, an L-29 Dolphin (?) and the MASH chopper (dont remember the name of dat!)!

I am still searching (after 3 years!) for the date of the first flight of the prototype or 1st production or first conversion of the G.59; all I have is 1949, which may iteslf be incorrect. This seems to be a good opportunity to ask the experts! Does anyone reading this know and can put me out of my misery?
