Reading the “other” historic aviation monthly did anybody else notice the tenuous link between the TFC Glad and the dawn of Britain’s jet age?
The Glad was flown by Gloster’s test pilot Michael Daunt after his crash in the Folland Fo. 108 test bed (strewth what an ugly aircraft – form definitely followed function on that occasion) and just before his first flight in the Gloster E28/39 W4041 following Jerry Sayer’s death.

Looking into the not so distant future, we might have three airworthy Gladiators.
Shuttleworth, TFC and the Norwegian example at Kjeller. Could be something bringing them all together once.

When did the first TFC Gladiator restoration fly and how many displays / flights did she have.
July 2008, for two flights only.

When did the first TFC Gladiator restoration fly and how many displays / flights did she have. Seem to remember she was grounded along with most of the TFC fleet due to paper work issues. Hope that these are now sorted.

So the possibilities of a pair in front of you flying left to right is a possibility for Legends then ! 🙂

It was on loan to the FAAM from the Shuttleworth Trust, who sold it to TFC.

It didn’t belong to the FAA museum, they didn’t “Get rid” of it.
By: Mike J - 15th March 2013 at 17:46
Does the FAA museum have another?
Yes. A largely new-build project to which they have attached the identity of N5518.

Why did the FAA museum get rid of her?
Can’t be too many Gladiators around. Does the FAA museum have another?
