TFC Griffon Spits

Does anyone know the reason for TFC not being able to test fly their MK XVIII Spitfire ?
I’ve seen various comments about not being allowed to by the CAA but what makes this aiframe any different from the one flying with HFL / ARCO or for that matter the one HFL restored a few years back for Rudy Frasca, that one was test flown before export.
Also what’s the reason for the dismantling of their MK XIV? that hasnt been sold as well has it ?

I rather thought that SM969 was suffering “container withdrawal syndrome” after spending a substantial part of its rebuilt life in various crates and shipping containers hidden away at “secret” locations with the Arnolds. Nice to know its back cosy in its “natural” environment for a while…:D

It was not TFCs spitfire to test.

As for being different to the other flyers, well yes i’d like to know that as well.

The 14 is undergoing a 200 hour inspection program.

if you are that interested why not contact them via the TFC blog?

There were paperwork issues which prevented the flight of the aircraft prior to its export to the USA.

I would imagine the XIV is undergoing its scheduled winter maintenance – as most warbirds undergo at this time of year, following the airshow season.

There are several people here more closely associated with TFC – they’d give you a better answer, but I suspect that’s the long and the short of it.

i thought it was something to do with the requirement to have every part of the operating manual for the aircraft, and that some part of it was missing???
