I’m looking for some photos for a model I’m planning on building shortly. This one is much smaller than the normal 1/4 to 1/6 scale I generally build; a microscopic 1/48th!
I have the Academy 1/48 Hawk 75 kit, and rather than building it out of the box, I want to build it as a cutaway model, showing various parts of the internal structure and fittings. I have a good cutaway drawing showing the structure, but I’m looking for colours, though detail photos would also help.
I found a couple of pictures on the Fighter Collection website, but do any members have any photos of the colours of the cockpit, and internal wing/fuselage structure colours. The wing photo on TFC’s website shows a dark green finish in the inspection hatches. I don’t know if this is a modern corrosion treatment or whether wartime aircraft were finished internally like this, but it’s TFC’s aircraft I want to model as it is today.
Any help apprciated.

lovely model of a very attractive aircraft. I missed your post first time round but have some H75 paint samples. Good luck with the Spit.

Many thanks. My next model is a 1/48 Spitfire IX ‘under restoration’ diorama. The aircraft will be mostly complete, with the majority in primer, some panels missing, and the control surfaces possibly painted in camo, hanging on their painting racks.

A very nice detailed, high quality model. Full marks on the colour scheme as well, absolutely brilliant.

Finished
It’s been a while, but I finally finished. The basic model is the Academy kit, all the interior structure is scratch built. The structure is based on the TFC example, but I used the kit decals rather than trying to make an exact copy.
It’s the first cutaway model I’ve built, and much smaller than the 1/4 scale I’m used to. It has it’s flaws, but overall, I’m pleased with the results.

Many thanks. That site give me pretty much all the info I need, especially all the shots with the panels removed. I can see now I have a huge challenge and several months work ahead of me!

A long time lurker here, I registered last night to post this link for you Steve:

It’s connected to the same site as the link posted by B-17man, and provides some excellent views of the interior.

Thanks. That’s quite a brown rich green for the interior colour. Looks like well faded olive drab.

Thanks. That’s a good start.

So if I build a cutaway of the wing, any spars, ribs and stringers should be Curtiss Green?

Think you will find thats a primer used in NZ where the wing was built.
It was painted over with the curtis green by california aerofab on assembly.

Cheers. What about the dark green on this wing picture?

The hawks interior colour is curtis interior green.
It is very different from the standard U.S interior green.
