TFC Mosquito

I was at Duxford on Sunday and noticed that the TFC Mosquito fuselage had been moved into the main hangar next to where the wing has been stored for some time, and that all manner of bits were laid out all around it. Apparently it had been moved over the past few days. Rather ominously there is a large container on the apron outside.

They may just be doing some ‘stocktaking’, or perhaps it is going elswhere for rebuild. Rumour has it that it has been swapped for something rare from the States.

Does anyone have any firm information about its current status?
In tha attached picture you can see the rear fuselage behind the Nimrod. Sorry it isn’t better reference.

I have still not had any information from anyone about the timescale for the move of TV959. I’m hoping to get to see her in a little over a weeks time, but would make a much larger effort to see her sooner if she is likely to be gone by the time I make it.

I’ve tried e-mailing TFC with no response as yet.

Does anyone know who I can contact to try and find out what is going on?

RE: TFC Mosquito

Hi All,

There’s an FB VI, that’s supposed to be, being rebuild in California, I don’t know much about. The Mossie reg is PZ 474.

Why the Americans would want yet another Mosquito, they have several that have been in long term storatage as it is!!! Add to them the Canadians & there more Mossies in storage there than in the UK!

If TV959 goes, I for one will be very sad, but I guess that’s the power of the ‘Greenback’. Sickening isn’t it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RE: TFC Mosquito

The rumours of TV959 being exchanged for ‘something rare from the US’ are quite intriguing. Question is, what? And would it be more relevant to the UK than a Mosquito? I’d guess not, in which case I’m a bit unsure of the logic of it. If it was a straight sale to generate revenue I could understand it, but Steve Grey only ever seems to offload an aeroplane when he has a replacement lined up, and I don’t know of any other Mosquitoes in the offing.

To add another angle to it, coincidentally, these pictures…

http://community.webshots.com/album/64632538ykGndg

…were posted on WIX today showing a Mosquito wing which has recently been moved out of it’s hangar at Chino. Some are saying it may be the wing for the Swedish Air Force Museum’s Mossie. Whichever Mosquito it’s from, it looks like it’s in fairly good condition.

I’m wondering whether this wing might be destined for TV959, with ‘959s wing going to the Swedish Air Force Museum as a static? And if so, is the container outside hangar 2 intended to transport a) TV959 to Chino for restoration (we know TFC have strong links with Fighter Rebuilders, but I’m not sure what these guys are like with wood), or b) TV959’s wing to Sweden. Or was TV959 originally stored in the container on the north side of Duxford?

It’s all very intriguing…

RE: TFC Mosquito

I haven’t heard anything as yet…although I did have the good fortune to see her close up on the northside when she emerged from storage on Tuesday…damn typical though I didn’t have my camera with me that day…grrrrrrr!

Although I would be gutted if she was sold to someone in the States…if they then rebuilt her to flying condition and actually flew her, that at least would be keeping the Mosquito spirit alive…
