TFC P-39 restoration

Actually, talking with Doug (who shot the picture)…he says it would be fairly realistic to expect to see the plane at FL ’04 because apparently there is a sizeable team assigned to it and progress is rapid…and will be more so as they get closer to finishing the plane…so it is a possibility that you will see it on the ramp next year at Legends!

If made a priority I doubt that Fighter Rebuilders would have any problem getting the P-39 done in a very rapid manner. They’ve done more with less in the past! However, I can make no comment as to getting the paperwork through the CAA! A very exciting restoration nearing completion. I look forward to the finished product, even if it is going across the pond!

Looking closely at the photo you can see steve hintons chaps are starting to install the ammo boxes for the 20mm cannon,i wonder if they will put a droptank on the centre-line,saying that cannot see wing gun ports at present.

Actually it was supposed to fly at the end of 2003…..I just saw it last month…..There would be no reason it wouldn’t be ready for Legends 2004. 2005????? No way!!!

Sound thinking Steve,I got a bit carried away when I first saw the pic.Seeing something on it’s feet with the prop on the front at first glance always suggests that something is close to flight-I’ll try and keep me head screwed on a bit tighter in future.Looking again at that pic and seeing the empty cockpit etc,I’m now wondering if it’s even a possibility for 2005!

Would be nice Ant, but I doubt it. Looks like there’s still a hell of a lot to do to finish her off, plus the flight testing, time taken for the CAA to sit on the paperwork, dismantling, shipping across the pond, reassembly… No, I don’t think she’ll make Legends 2004.

Nice picture though, progress has certainly been made since the last picture I saw.
