Tfc P-39

Want to see a P-39 fly??

You have to live in LA – the San Fernando Valley would be easiest, but it’s up to you – and you have to be able to play hookie from work during the day on Wednesday. Fighter Rebuilders has finished the rare P-39Q-6 they’ve restored for The Fighter Collection, and are going to fly it Wedneseday – one time only, then it gets disassembled, stuck in a shipping container and sent to England. The closest flight schedule is sometime between 1000-1400, which means get out there and wait.

I’m asking because my ride just fell through, so if you’re willing to give me a ride I will get you in for the flight. (I live about 5 minutes away from Burbank Airport)

Contact me at TomTheAeronut@aol.com

TIA

Tom Cleaver “

Who remembers Control Column magazine?

I thought you would perhaps like to see what Control Column magazine had to say about the P-39 recoveries, TFC’s included, from New Guinea in the 1970’s.

Looks like quite an adventure.

Sorry Mike(s)!
What I meant was landplanes, so yes P-40. What about Buffalo, Ryan STA, Lockheed 10, Martin 10 etc… You know, INTERESTING planes!

To get back on topic and avoid putrid teddy moments, can anyone think of any other early Pacific war aircraft flying?

The world’s only airworthy Hudson, p’haps?

Either way, this magnificent machine will be filling a big gap in aviation history in representing this all too often forgotton theatre and period. Nice looking plane too.

Cheers

Wildcats and Avengers come to mind. Come on JDK put your thinking cap on before asking questions like that

That has to be the mother of all nose-wheel landing-gear legs.

Apart from possibly the A4 Skyhawk and Concorde

Stock military.

Great shots on the PoF site. It just looks wonderfully ‘stock military’ in the same way as ‘Glacier Girl’.

An amusing typo on the PoF site. The section is headed in graphic font…. ‘P-39 Ariacobra’.

I cannot tell a lie – ‘Duvec’ made all the arrangements and what a fine host he was.

Mark12,

You are far too kind! In modern “forum parlance” it was only a “quarter patterson” and the least that could be done for visitor from the old country who shared the faith!

Any chance of someone in the States posting a photo of the TFC P-39Q, so we can all get a preview? Thanks

Albert, have a look at the link above.

Great !! Cant wait to see and hear it in the UK.

Someone said before that it may be the 1st p 39 to fly in the uk since WW2…. But didnt TFC have a 39 in the early 90’s that was lost in France… ??

That was a P63.

Nice. A great achievement.

A very important type returns to the air again.

Thanks to all those, who, over the years, have made this happen. A big ‘thank you’.

Cheers
