TFL photo tread

Hello guys.

As you might have noticed before, I enjoy to take photos of The Flying Legends Collection which is based at Kortrijk-Wevelgem in Belgium which is not far from my home. This year is probably their final season. I started this tread so all of you can enjoy these final moments of the group as it was for more than 15 years.

The group had 11 flying planes during its glory days. Now, only 6 are left in flying condition and one is stored. It is possible that this number will still go down.

Last weekend, it was probably the last time that TFL flew all its planes to a airshow. This was to make a flying display at Volkel on Sunday the 16th. It was intended to include a other SV4b OO-WIL into the formation to have 7 planes, but paperwork prevented the SV4 to fly. I took some pics last sunday when the formation arrived back at their home after the show in The Netherlands.

First three pics are from the formation flying overhead EBKT. On the third picture you can see from left to right: Boeing N2S Stearman OO-USN, VL Viima OO-EBL, DH82a Tigermoth OO-TGM, Stampe SV4d OO-SVT, Stampe SV4c OO-LYR and finaly Morane Saulnier MS.317 OO-MOR.

Last week there was some more bad news for TFL. They are based at EBKT in Belgium. This airport has 2 runways. One concrete and one grass strip. Last week it was decided to close the grass runway. It is forbidden to use it now. This will cause more restrictions to operate the biplanes (which are built to operate from grass). So this is another set back. 🙁

Next week, TFL is going to make its last appearence at Oostmalle in Belgium on september 5th. This is not yet fully confermed. It could be the last time that you can see the team. There are some doubts if the team will be back next year. But the planes will be maintained in airworthy condition and flown occasionaly.

To close for now 2 pics of other planes of TFL:
1. Bucker Bu133 during march 2004. It is reported to be sold to Glenn Lacey, but still rests at EBKT.
2. A rare recent pic, made uppon arrival at EBKT in february 2004 of Hawker Fury MK1 G-BKBB. It had just made its ferryflight from Old Warden. This was its only flight in 3 years. It is now stored (in full airworthy condition) at EBKT. With thanks to J. Vanhulle.

I will add some more pics to this tread. Next to come are pics os the Wings and wheels event which TFL attended with all its remaining planes. The event took place at Ursel (Belgium) on 7 and 8 august.

This was also the last appearence of the Viima for this year. A Technical problem has grounded the aircraft for the rest of the season.

Next week, they will attend WAW with their 6 vintage planes + extraviation’s SV4b. I hope to get some nice pics from Ursel!

PS: the Bucker Bu133C (OO-EII) which is reported as sold to Mr. Lacey in the UK is still in Belgium.

Cheers,

In July, the Legends attended a show in calais, but I couldn’t be there. (sometimes I just have to work 🙁 ). They attended with several planes such as the Boeing Stearman.
They cancelled their participation at the Koksyde open days during early july due to very bad weather and heavy winds. they couldn’t get airborne without risks.

Now, the team flew some of their biplanes for the first time in 3 weeks to practice for the WAW event next week at Ursel.

Small update:

I had contact with the PR of The Flying Legends and they told me that OO-SVT also attended the stampe Fly-inn that day but had to leave earlier. So they attended with 3 planes after all.

TFL made a static appearance for one day at the Stampe Fly-inn during this weekend. They attended the event with two of their planes: The SV4c OO-LYR and DH82 OO-TGM.

Here the proof that they have been at EBAW:

I am glad you can enjoy it! Thanks guys. The camera I learn to use is a Minolta Dimage 7Hi. I never took any detailed photos before. Previous years, my father did most of the photo-work. I bought my camera last winter and started to practice. I don’t think it looks bad.

Nice tailwheel indeed AW.

And the SV4d. This was a acrobatic SV4 which was built with a 180hp Lycoming engine. This gave the SV4 a power boost. Some SV4c where converted to SV4d status for this reason. Also the maintenance of the Lycoming engine is more easy than the Renault engine.

Second in line was the SV4c OO-LYR which is flying more frequently now. It was not very active during 2003 due to engine problems but it has been flown more during the last months.

And now in the planes during their landing:

First that came in was the Morane:
