Thai to lease 744s to other Star members

Thai Airways Plans To Lease Some Boeing Planes

BANGKOK (Dow Jones) -Thai Airways International PCL (THAI.TH) plans to lease some of its 18 Boeing 747-400s to other airline members of the Star Alliance, the Bangkok Post reports.

The plan is aimed to maximize the utilization of its fleet during the low tourism season, the paper quotes the flag carrier’s president, Kanok Abhiradee, as saying.

Kanok said he is discussing possible deals with one or two airlines in Europe.

With its new eight Airbus 340-500 and Airbus 340-600 jets to be delivered next year, Thai Airways will offer new Bangkok-New York direct flights six times a week. Other new services for 2005 include three flights a week for routes covering Bangkok-San Francisco, Bangkok-Moscow and Bangkok-Johannesburg.

The Nation newspaper also quotes Kanok as saying he expects the company to maintain its net profit margin of 8% this year from last year.
