A short time back we had some great photos of the Thames Fortds from the
air, I said about the Paddle Steamer trip on board the Waverley which sails round them, well the details are now avalable:
The Paddle Steamer Waverley will be sailing round the Thames Forts on Sunday 2nd October.
The timetable is as follows:
Depart London Tower Pier 1000
Tilbury 1200
Southend 1330
Thames Forts & Shipping
Southend 1645
Tilbury 1815
London Tower Pier 2015
Night time cruise to Tilbury 2230
a coach will ferry passenger to Southend arriving there at 2300
You dont have to do the whole thing, I will be getting on and off at Southend. The trip is well worth it, there is a cafe, shop and best of all a bar on board!
There is normally also a talk, you will also get to see the Pheonix Cassion, and from a distance the wreck of the USS Richard Montgomery.

from what I can rember the London round trip is about £30-35 maybe a bit more.
the Southend section is £15.
I done the London-Forts-London trip twice now so will only be doing the Southend trip this year as money is a bit on the low side if wallets could have anirexia mine would be in very serious trubble.

A trip on Waverley is a great day out. Stand in the passageway through the engine room and watch those massive pistons with the shiny brasswork and drink in the aroma of the hot oil wafting up as the paddles churn the water to foam just a few feet away. Marvellous!
