A Griffon Growled over Northwood tonight😀
Living on the flight path for RAF Northolt (and just behind Northwood HQ), I regularly look skywards at what turns out to be yet another civilian helicopter. But this evening at 7pm the noise that disturbed the farewell chat to my parents-in-law on my front drive was very different.
Before the words “It’s a Spitfire!” had left my mouth, the wonderful sight of a pale blue Mk PRXIX swung into view. It circled tightly over the treetops, my garden its epicentre. Banking over at 90 degrees we had a stunning view of the topside of what I assume was PS915. It went around again, two full circles of my house, disappearing only moments before a camera could be deposited into my hand.
The BBMF programme for today says a Spitfire will be displaying at nearby RAF Northolt. It would be much too much to imagine that I was the intended beneficiary of this little local display. I assume he was just lining up, or killing a little time, but I want to thank the pilot for making a little detour where he did!
Today has been a special day in the calendar for my family and friends. I cannot tell you how much more special it has been, for seeing this beautiful plane over my house.

That is a shame. It was supposed to be AB910 for the Polish veterans.
AB910 was displaying in the Channel Islands with Hurricane PZ and the Dak. The fighters arrived back at Coningsby about 11:00 today.

My eyesight and knowledge wouldn’t usually let me tell one variant from another, but this was definitely blue and not a Merlin!
