I just wanted to take a moment and reflect and remember all those who have ever served in our armed forces who never had their next New Year.
Thank You.
I would just like to highlight the losses for the period of 1939 to 1945.
Why these years? Well its in my forum name isnt it. No reason in particular just an easy period to remember I guess.
All these losses happened on this very night all those years ago on their respective years. All summarised from available CWGC information.
Losses for 1939 = 36
SS Boxhill had the biggest loss of life this night.
1940 = 60
No one force really stands out in losses but the RAF had quite a few and one from 603 sqn which as you all know is Edinburgh which is where I am right now.
1941 = 84
Here the biggest loss of life seems to come from the MV Cardita London.
1942 = 353
Serious loss of life on HMS Bramble, Onslow and Achates.
1943 = 143
HMS Clacton being the main loss here.
1944 = 164
With the RAF VR taking the biggest losses. Namely 138 Sqn and 150 Sqn
1945 = 51
No one force again stands out as they seem to have equal losses.
totalling 891 losses during this period alone.
From the bottom of my heart thank you one and all.
For our tomorrow you gave your today.
Thank you also goes to all those who continue to serve.

Merlin, I would like to add the loved ones who face another year without them. Also all those who were damaged in mind and body.
My only hope for 2012 is that those who are serving us this night return home safely. God Bless our armed services past,present and future.
I could not be more proud of you!
I have to go now its rather dusty in here.
