Does anyone know if the sand colored Bucc at Elvington is a ground runner or is it just the camo painted version?

The Elvington Dakota should be ready to taxi by the end of this year/early next year according to the restoration team. Thats probably enough to be getting on with for now.

Could they do a similar thing at Bruntingthorpe??? Maybe the concept of preservation Vs risk need to be considered in the case of a museum?

Yes ECU, is Engine Change Unit, how the engine and its associated parts are described as a whole in reference to pulling one out and replacing with another. Ben you were just about a third right!
Is there a good reason why the this bucc should be a ground runner?

XX901 is a static only, the ECU’s are too far gone in terms of corrosion and damage.
In this context…ECU would normally mean Engine Change Unit…
IE both engines are U/S

Engine Control Unit
By: Nashio966 - 17th April 2010 at 10:16
electronic control unit??
By: Fouga23 - 17th April 2010 at 10:13
Stupid question: What’s an ECU?:p
By: Arabella-Cox - 17th April 2010 at 07:20
xw544 was classed as too far gone once and there’s potential now for running… anythings possible given a double ecu cx obviously
By: Blue_2 - 17th April 2010 at 00:42
From what I can gather, no. The runner has earlier u/c and brakes, and those particular brake parts are in pretty short supply I believe which curtails ambitions of fast-taxiing. The chaps there were looking towards a repaint for the runner, ideally the other Bucc could do with one too because she’s starting to look a tad scruffy.

OK thanks. Wonder if she is a spares source for the runner and also if the runner will get a repaint eventually??

No Peter, she was roaded in from Kemble in 1995/6.
By: Peter - 16th April 2010 at 23:16
Thats a shame.. she flew in right?
