I stumbled on these three shots on Flickr, the Photostream of BOBDCUK.
They may be well known but were new to me.
1977, so those young lads have probably retired by now.
I presume this section was the start point for a well known project.
I remember passing over a cockpit section of a rotted out Seafire XV at this yard at about this time…bad move. 🙂

David, see my earlier link, last page….http://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/documents/collections/74-A-27-Typhoon-MN235-public.pdf
Its a good start, but out of date and missing some.
Many thanks,

I’d like to see a concise list of Tempest/Typhoon cockpit sections.
Good luck with that. These days certain people get some car exhausttube, add some original plates to claim originality and hey presto…. next Wrecks & Relics lists yet another Typhoon cockpit underway !!

In addition to the RAFM document some are referenced in the National Aviation Heritage Register http://www.bapc.org.uk/html/nah_register.html
They can also be crossed referenced in Wrecks & Relics! 🙂

So where is it now – I recall that someone posted pics of Typhoon or Tempest parts with Barry Parkhouse recently?

However, like Hurricanes and Spitfires, making a definitive list and their whereabouts can be tricky. What constitutes a survivor, and does the owner want to keep their project under wraps or not?
Can anyone get the ball rolling?

Great photos Mark. In later years I think Gannet AEW.3 XL471 also ended up at Brownhills but I could be wrong.

Brownhills is only 10 min from where I type this, I think the yard is less than 5 miles away and in the bottom picture I think I can just make out the A5 with the field where the Staffordshire Anglo Saxon hoard was found. It doesn’t look like this now but I have spoke to people who can remember “piles of aircraft” in the yard, said they were Javelins.

Photos?
It was pretty ropey and at that time I had had four other Seafire projects in far better condition and the lady wanted far too much money for it.
SW800. Currently in Australia…in the ‘boo’ and will surely fly one day.

Useful 2013 listing by Andrew Simpson at the bottom of the history of MN235 RAFM

I particularly like the “boot glove” the guy in the mustard jumper in shot one is wearing, maybe an early misinterpretation of the health and safety????
